Been quite some time now and never any furniture purchases but I've bought a few USGI upper assemblies, M-16 gun parts and other surplus wares.
My personal experience was mostly buying two of same item. One item would generally be very nice and other would be barely acceptable / kinda as vaguely described more times than not. Typical surplus crapshoot!
As stated shipping kinda priced them out of my game, the inflation of surplus items as a whole and or the barely acceptable condition of too many items I received pretty much cost them our business. Probably spent several $K over the years.
I still watch the site but I prefer to negotiate when condition is sub par and not pay excellent or NOS prices for crap / fair condition items.
If advertised as excellent it generally is or he will simply return coins after one goes through all the return hoops and GS has done too much of this type of business IMO. If it's just good condition , call it good not (good to excellent) as they generally leave themselves a huge out but generally all is priced at excellent condition current pricing or more same as Sarco or Numrich.
Most generally over rate condition not under rate so GS isn't alone.
I would guess they may have some excellent condition stuff mixed in but it is used surplus for a reason.
I just just got a load of beater crap from Slim at Indiana Surplus and far overpaid for condition of parts I received but I was also late to the party and probably got the leavings at current too high prices. Others did much better. I won't throw it away but 99% of purchase was BTDT / fair condition at best. I would not recommend them to any one I liked put it that way after condition of parts I received.
Point is not too many places to buy excellent condition retro any more regardless of what they tell you in the ad or on the phone. Watch GB or other sites with actual item pics to possibly eliminate the lows.
No affiliation but personally for a furniture purchase I'd go with retro members Jhud or Boywonder777 if I was actually looking and tell them what condition you want and pay their price. Probably far less disappointing experiences this way or simply search for the parts deals on your own dime. Use another's coin for their R&D and you should expect to pay their price.
Generally posts like this will also get an IM or few from sellers / sales pitch.
