OK, we have a new record for a 601 rear sight.
$585 plus shipping.
Which means, in the current market, you can buy a complete basic AR15 for less than one good retro rear sight assembly!
BUT...this is also a prime example of the collectible market and explains why I frequently warn people that "market prices" don't mean a lot when it comes to collectible items. There were only two guys fighting for this auction, and they were
both willing to pay $580 or more for the item...today.
Tomorrow, if another sight hits the market and the "loser" of this auction (who bid $580 today) goes up against someone who is only willing to pay $250...the "new market value" will be $255 (the lowest amount required to win the new auction).
Regardless, though, today's seller can certainly celebrate!

You're missing nothing. I have to assume these two bidders weren't looking at anything else.
The disease, she makes men crazy!
For anyone interested in the count so far (just for info's sake for anyone considering a 601 build...or selling one off)...
1-14 barrel (1280.55)
Green handguards (1445.00)
601 stripped upper (555.00)
Steel gas tube (48.00)
Type B stock and PG (305.00)
Rear sight assy (585.00)
That puts the sale at $4,218.55 so far, with the ejection port cover, charging handle and (mostly 601) BCG still to close.
Let's face it, there is probably no way he could have sold the complete rifle for what he's getting for the parts.
