I don't think they're allowing linking to items now, might want to ask mods.

it's gonna take awhile to stop the almost knee jerk impulse of trying to help people out by posting links to items we know are of interest.

but stop we must.

Only thing bad to me is if it's that person's item. Otherwise, it should be ok, but that's my opinion.

Op can just be pointing out a piece of history not a sale item even if its on gb.

First one would be nice to front end an 80%, but what would you do to the one missing the serial number?

I truly hope something gets sorted out.... There is a value for members like myself from the "Look what I spotted" type links in this small corner of the forum. I've spend the last 25 plus yrs wrenching on my old Turbo Buicks and just got into this retro madness the last 3-4 yrs. Being late to the scene, I truly value those post/threads. However, I do see how some get a little twisted up from certain type/style post, but my view and I'm sure other members as well.....I don't have a tremendous amount of time to wade through tons of items & post I have no interested in, it would be different if the Retro market was saturated like the rest of the AR market and the parts came easy.

A possible solution would be for "The Powers that Be" create one sticky or allow 1 link to run for " Retro Items for Sale" and "Retro Heads-up Links" inside this section of the forum. (Something like this)

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/605352_Links_to_all_the_In_Stock_Threads.html

Then if an item gets linked or posted there for sale or look what I've spotted post, it can not be cross post in another area. From an angle of "Heads-up or Retro Items in Stock...it's really the same as the board allowing links to run for items in stock threads for new Receivers, BCG, Barrels, etc. Seeing how the items this group seeks out is 40 plus years old, we are chasing a limited supply of used parts that others members are selling, the few and far between GB & eBay ads or the very few repo manufactures parts being made.

It really has the potential to be something Great and a very valuable tool in this groups quest.

$400 for a chunk of magwell?   Either I am terribly out of touch with the retro market these days or those parts are priced very proud.

I agree and I have gotten countless Thank You's from guys who found just exactly what they were looking for and might not have found a particular item if I didn't give a heads up on it. IMHO we lost a valuable asset to our community by losing the ability to post heads ups.

Well................here goes...............and I'll probably get this thread locked or get reprimanded.   The "THANK ME" thread looked more like a LOOK AT ME thread than it did a HEADS UP thread.  I can only conclude that was the impression of those in charge, as every other forum here on AR15.com that I frequent allows HEADS UP posts.

The problem I have with HU posts is the OP's of these posts don't post them if it's an item they are interested in.

Why?

Because they don't want everyone else to know about it.

If the OP doesn't want or cannot afford the item, He/She tells everyone about it.

Seems unfair to me that others watching said item,  now have 100 new people to bid against.

I'm sure the person selling the item would disagree...

This is a true statement.
There was an instance where I was the lone bidder on a Colt stock for a great deal, nobody was looking or watching it because the description was very vague and misspelled on ebay. Someone did stumble across it and gave the heads-up, and almost immediately the price was driven up way higher than I would spend. Was a good deal for the seller though.

Sure that has happened......It has happened to me as well. I also would bet that through your entire tenor here, there has been more items you've got a chance at because someone else post a link to it. Probably have even discovered some new shopping grounds along the way.. When someone gets into a low supply high demand market, you have to be prepared to pay fair market value. Think about all the heads up post that has warned of an item that has been misrepresented, I'm sure a few of those have saved a few hides here. There is tons of example...Just look back at the Indiana Surplus Heads Up ad. What if that one member would have milked the source dry, he could have had a gold mine for years selling parts in the EE. He shared, helped all the Retro Brothers here out and the entire hive benefitted from it. Another example of recent, is the new Colt barrels from Fulton and that list goes on.

This Forum needs a place to share that type stuff....

Are you implying that I was giving people heads ups on parts for recognition?

I'm a little confused by this logic and defense of the practice. If you (anyone) can find it merely in passing or by stumbling upon it...

Then why can't the person actually looking for the gosh dang part themselves? Why should the retro forum be allowed/forced to cater to those with weak search skills by promoting commercial activity?

Not trying to be mean...however in my view things have really gotten out of hand beyond the scope and nature for which this forum was organized.
