Took the 656 out to the range today, sighted it in at 25 yards then moved back to 100 yards.

First 50 or so rounds banged off the steel nicely from the prone position although I was having to aim about 6 inches lower than at 25 yards (seemed odd to me).

I then moved to a "rested" standing position at 100 yards and couldn't hit anything (shots not grouping at all, each shot seeming to get higher)

I decided to move back to 25 yards and check my zero and was surprised to find I wasn't even on paper any more.

The reason?

I am using a newer leatherwood scope as it was cheaper than a true art rangefinder that would be correct. The problem is no matter how tight i tighten the mount to the receiver it eventually works it's way forwards and I believe this along with some other minor scope related issues are whats causing my problem.

I'm posting up here because a) I wanted to show off my build, which i love

but more importantly

b) I am going to have to bite the bullet and buy the period correct scope and mount, so if anyone see's one around can you please let me know?

p.s. i think Trimdad is looking for one too (unless he found one already)

Please excuse my bubba brass deflector all I could find was white duct tape in my car

This is why the pictinny rail was created IMO. Does it have two notches like a weaver rail? I think without a slot to catch the mount it's always going to walk, no matter what. The other thing you could try is drill and tap a set screw into it to engage the receiver, and dimple that slightly to catch the set screw - perhaps one each side? I'm guessing the same guy who got your Rhino system up and running could find an elegant solution... Great pics. Love that weapon.

You are right morg the cross bar is on the front thumb screw the rear one just torques down but does not have a cross bar. I could take the scope out and mount it the other way (so the front thumbscrew with cross bar becomes the rear) but then the thumb screws would be on the wrong side!

In the short term this is what i will probably do. If i could even find the right scope mount I actually have a scope hanging around that is similar that I could use. I don't know if that's something JT could fabricate or not.

Ahhhh..the 656... My holy grail.

Well I got lucky a while ago and found the right scope.
But it took almost a year of hunting .  It became a exhausting Dailey
Ritual checking a dozen different sites.
And countless gun shows including the largest one in the country
A couple of hours away.   No luck. .

I did miss two scopes that popped up .
One was brand new in the box with everything that came from the factory
For 300$!!!  Missed it by a couple of day because the company forgot
To update their website. The other on e bay.
Now have been three ARTs on e bay
For a couple of years  , for 700 each!   When you finally give up the search

I'll tell ya what finally worked for me was I ran a wanted to buy
Add on the five biggest sites. I wound up with a few of them . Fairly
Quickly .

The mount on the other hand.... There is just now way
Around having it made.

300 for the scope wow! What sites were you using?

The one I was looking at had the scope and mount but it was $1k I made the guy a buy it now offer but he refused. I bid but ended up getting outbid. That was about a year ago.

Hard to remember all the sites now. But I remember checking
E bay , gunbroker, always arfcom. ( even though I've never seen one on EE)
Sturm collectors board , and the m14 forum , armslist and sniper hide.

I think I placed wtb adds on most of them, but it's the one on arfcom that paid
Off. My add has been down for probably 6 months but I still
Got a e mail the other day from someone selling a ART.
Downside is he wanted 700$

Numrich has a few small Pieces that are correct for a scope mount.

I'll start my search again I had good luck on eBay. It's been so long now I've forgotten a bunch of the details on the scope. I'll contact jt this evening about potentially making the mount.

Honestly , in my opinion. , your best bet is a wanted to buy add.
They work. That's how all mine came about. I had very little luck with the Dailey searches .
E mail my later if you want , I have some great pics you can use
For a wtb add should you choose.

Also , you might contact  my65pan, since he has made the only authentic
Mount so far.  I tried a long time ago, before braceman, but I got no response.
You might have better luck

I think I stopped by pans thread and stole a bunch of pics of him making the mount. Now he is back in circulation I'll try hitting him up again thanks for the reminder
