Lovely rifle may want to post it here:
A2 forum A lot of the guys in here don't consider the A2 old school or retro. Digging the HG though can you give us some specs. |

What constitutes retro here? I'm mid 50's and this looks modern to me. And please don't tell me I'm getting old.

I tore my only complete retro down because I wasn't happy with it.
I'm going to take my time and do it right this time, all USGI except for the lower and barrel, I'd probably use a Colt barrel too but I figure if I shoot out a new one I won't feel so bad, plus I already have one. I'm hoping to redo it soon. Somehow two other builds got in front of it and on my budget a build can take 6 months. |

Yeah, OP has a nice rifle, but it's not retro. With all the flat tops around today though, I can see why he might think it old school. Still an A2 though, and that's not retro.
Speaking of what is and what isn't retro.......since the MK18 Mod O was issued as an upper to be used in conjunction with an M16A1 lower, does that make them retro? OP..........is the handguard for use with a launcher? |

To me retro: pre-A2 upgrades.
Brunton bumps should be banished to the A2 forum. |

If it's got an A1 rear sight i think it belongs here *hides*....
|

It's a frankin build...the upper was one I had for a few yrs. I put this together thru several companies. The HG came from a gb auction.

The M203 hg is not really practical without the 203 because of the huge gap on the bottom. I fixed that with a heat shield from an A2 hg. I call it old school is because of the military uses M4's and all the A2's are being sold to the Iraq army. This is retro to me since I myself switched to the M4...I shoot the A2 a whole lot better than the M4.

I am aesthetically offended by A2 reinforcements and finger bumps on pistol grips and round rifle handguards and such, but depending on the rest of the rifle, I can hold my nose and (just barely) tolerate such things. But A2 sights are just abhorrent to my retro sensibilities! To the person who asked, "retro" here was originally intended to be up through the VN war-era. Our time boundaries have expanded a bit...but stop just short of the A2. OP, nice rifle. And, yeah, it's retro...just not retro! |

Wow, too much eye candy. I'm getting a headache. Super pictures guys! I'm still wondering if those Green Beret pictures are photo op's due to the sling being installed backwards. Or are they correct for the time/era? Any old timers here that really know?
