So these came on an early 604 upper I just bought. I'm skeptical and never expected anything other
than your run of the mill hangaurds. They appear to be type D and the brown doesn't look right, but I'm up for opinions.

They are a mixed set of hand guards, the heat shields aren't the same.

ETA- You seem to have one Type C handgaurd painted but the other ( one without the closeup) could be earlier try looking into that one further. See how one has the hook shape on the heat shield before the rivot? That would be the Type C painted, but the other one's heat shield looks much more like that of a Type A or B, you could have one 601 handguard and they were painted to match several times.

I see what you are saying with the heat shields so I went ahead and started scraping a little on the inside. So I scraped and thought I saw brown got my glasses, it was black. So I scraped
a little more, black. No matter how hard I wished for brown, it just didn't happen. That's Ok there still nice no drain hole HGs with no cracks and all dental work is intact.

So you got 1 Type C and 1 Type D....at least that's my assumption.

Cool I will have to put the type C away and find the opposite for it. I love the hunt

So this guy has the exact same set I do. Is there a possibility left and rights were different?
Or maybe different contracts?

Honestly, I never bothered to look at each side's heat shield other than for drain holes and the angle of the curve. I have a matching set of Type C's on my 602 I can easily go check.

ETA: I stand corrected, mine look just like FMJoe's Type C's one side doesn't have the hook. So your set is a Matching Type C that were painted multiple times.

Well that's still a good thing. I wasn't even expecting HGs that old.

Wonder how they will look cleaned up, I would definitely see if they are nice under that paint. It's well worth it to check...

At this point I will go at them aggressively and get them as clean as the age will let me. Then update with pics.
