OOooh nice, with S/N 00553 looks like you been waiting a while..

Haha yes just put it in with the rear swivel! Forgot about that in the picture.
Looks great,Congrats!! But are you saying you installed a sling swivel WITH the rubber coating?? If yes,,take that rubber off. Early rifles had uncoated sling swivels.

Hell of a job these days to assemble all the correct parts for a 601 - Kudos! I know it's taken you awhile, but you should be very proud of it. Great job!
Looks spectacular!!!
Now to "wear" the lower to match the upper & other components that have natural wear. |
The charging handle is like new original finish. I also have a new duckbill which I didn't put on because it looked weird to me. All the other parts are from the same kit. I bought one on gunbroker and slipped into another one from the Philippines from another buddy. I used the Philippines kit so all the peices you see there minus the port door and charging handle are from the same rifle.

Nice Job ! Just attack that lower like it was Laurie Partridge and distress to match.

Oh crap is that nice looking. Let me know when you find a green set of hand guards and I be first in line to take the brown ones. I'd hate to have to strip a green set to match my brown stock and PG. Away, thanks for sharing the build with us, enjoy it with pride.

Very nice man. I'm content with mine. Until I find a cast

As soon as I get the gas tube from you, Alex, I'll have all the parts to put mine together. It was not inexpensive, but it was worth it.

Doesn't the magazine release button have horizontal lines on the 601 rather than the circle lines?

Doesn't the magazine release button have horizontal lines on the 601 rather than the circle lines? View Quote The earliest 601 did I believe the first thousand or so but this was correct for mid to late 601's. I've only seen pictures of the horizontal line buttons in museums and such. |

Very nice. Trying.....to......resist.......the 601.........project............ Best, BC View Quote The trick is to avoid friends giving you that first 601 part for free. Sounds innocent enough, but in reality it's a premeditaded master plan designed for you to suffer what they went through. Kinda like coughing in someones face when you have a cold. |

That is a very nice looking rifle. I like it a lot and thanks for posting pics !

The first mark is the hardest Bro! Depending on how "weathered" you want it you can go light and easy and throw a handfull of nuts and bolts at it or roll it around in a box full and then hit it with a green scrubby and LOTS of elbow grease! (Anodizing is TOUGH STUFF!) OR if you want to REALLY beat it down use the afore mentioned nuts and bolt trick longer and with bigger and sharper nuts and bolts (to make scratches and gouges that will hold the darker color of the anodizing and not look "fresh") and use some super fine wet dry sandpaper and/or a stainless steel pot scrubby thing. Some small detail brushes in steel work good too. Look at the Real Deal post stickied above for ideal wear patterns and work on those area primarily. Go slow and compare to your upper frequently. You can always do more but it's dayum hard to do it less. ETA Quoted:

I'm going to have Nodak distress one for me. They only charge $20 more to work it over.

I think you have a Beautiful 601 Rifle there. But, I think you should put a Mag Button on it with the Horizontal Lines on it, to match your Receivers serial number. Do you have any plans to get it engraved with the Colt AR15 & Armalite markings on the Magwell? |
Yes I would like to send my upper and lower to someone to have the lower matched to the upper and have the engravings put on it. That is the only thing that bugs me on this rifle.
If he finds a horizontal line mag button, he'd have to find a type A stock, too. As it is, that's as close to a true clone as you can get without an original receiver. A truly great build!

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the help and support I've gotten while building this rifle. I have received a lot of information and am looking at more retro builds!!! But I posted in the appraisal ad and no one responded but what is a good deal on an original 601 sling?
Anybidy know the value of those? I posted in the appraisal thread but it stays at the top so no on sees it
