Don't you just LOVE the Norrells?  Trick,,,,if you exceed the time of baking,,,,it will start to get a greenish "Tint" to it.  AWESOME stuff!  Your rifle looks GREAT!

Well I have to admit it took me 3 attempts before I got it to turn out the way I wanted. Needless to say I did a lot of sanding over the weekend. I've got it figured out now and thought I put together a how to help others in the future....

Good lookin' rifle, OP!  Hope you get as much enjoyment out of tinkering and shooting yours as I have with mine!

I did the "greening" on my lower to match my upper, which is original (baked the lower at 350 instead of 300).

I think it turned out pretty good.  Can't really tell that it's not the same finish until you look at it up close. And, it's EASY to do.

Combine Norrell's with a Preval sprayer, and you can get your gun finished for under $35.

I did use the Preval sprayer on the 1st 2 attempts. It just came out to heavy and gave the receivers an uneven textured finish that had a spotted orange peeled look. I ended up going to hobby lobby & picked up a cheap air brush. On the 3rd last and final spray attempt, I heat the parts to 300* before coating. Given them 4 light mist coats holding the air brush away from the parts about 18", when parts cooled down between coats I re-heated them in the oven.

Mine has a very slight pebbly texture, but I'm not sure if it was the Preval sprayer or the fact that the aluminum was blasted first.  Either way, its not noticeable at all, since the upper has a very similar texture.

Good to see that you got it figured out, though. Looks excellent!

Go over to the refinishing thread in the armory section.
I started a norrells thread and folks have been positing some good pics,
Including retros.
