Finally started mine today.  Magpul "enhanced" trigger guard is in the mail.  End plate is a DD QD version.  I just need to decide on a tube.  Then I will be able to slap any of my SBR uppers on it and travel.

I just put this together.

Aero precision upper and lower in burnt bronze. 7.5'' barrel

I dont like how big the vortex strikefire is on there so I have a SPARC that is going to be here this week to replace it.

My first actual build from all individual parts.

Sorry for the potato pic.

PSA AP lower
PSA lower parts kit
PSA blem upper
8" MAS Defense .330BLK stainless barrel.
MAS Defense steel LP gas block and pistol gas tube
Spike Pistol tube, T2 buffer and spring.
KAK slimline .30 cal flash can timed with a crush washer
Midwest Industries 10" Keymod rail

I plan on putting a set of rail panels on but they are still in development at MI.  Supposed to be available soon.  Haven't decided on a set of BUIS'

No report on how it shoots as I don't have any ammo.  I did just get setup to start cutting and forming cases and have 200 projectiles.  All I need is to find some powder.

Sorry for the crappy pic - I was just too excited to get my family up here now that I finally have a rifle, carbine, and pistol!

Thanks to the "Pistol AR" section of ar15.com for getting me hooked on the idea!  I just stumbled over here by accident one day and was hooked when I saw the awesome pistols in this thread.  More high quality pics to come when I get time.

You won't regret using a VooDoo barrel, the quality is superb. I've built pistol uppers in varying lengths over the years, using barrels from just about every vendor, but I have to say these VooDoo barrels really stand out in performance, fit, finish etc..

That's a good question on the weight; my initial impression is 'not light' but that's my own doing!  She weighs about as much as the rifle beside her and/or my normal M4's from work but that's to be expected given the drop in KAC rail, EOTech, full size rear sight, etc.  The H&K magazine certainly isn't lithe either.

Next time I may do a lighterweight build...perhaps in ~7.5" and/or 300 BLK.

It will fit a pistol tube, but not effectively. Most people use pieces of inner-tube, foam, glue, and just about anything else to hold it in place. The Thordsen cover fixes that problem though since it was made for the CAA ST1 saddle as well as the CAA cheek riser. I tried the sb15, but didn't like it. The Thordsen/CAA combo on the other hand......perfect.

Thanks.

It's good. It's expensive for what it is, but it fits the build. The dot is pretty well defined compared to the budget red dots. It's lost cred as a tactical sight though it still has a strong following in competition circles so it can't be all bad. I recently checked one out on an old-school A1 style AR with a goose neck mount and was impressed with it.

I originally wanted to use an ACOG mini, but it'd be about the same price as the gun itself. Could not justify that on a fun gun.

But the Thordsen cover kit comes with a carbine shaped tube.   I am just trying to decide between the SB15 and the CAA ST1.  I guess I need to read up a little more on it.  Most of the saddles I have seen are on carbine tubes.

So the Thordsen cover will go over a pistol tube.

Edit - So it appears that the Thordsen cover does not go on a pistol buffer tube  - from their site "PLEASE NOTE:
THIS PRODUCT IS COMPATIBLE WITH MIL-SPEC
AND COMMERCIAL CARBINE BUFFER TUBES ONLY.

That is correct. The Thordsen cover must be placed over a carbine buffer tube. This is to provide a secure fit and allow the CAA ST1 to fit like a glove. If you get one, it's worth the few extra bucks to upgrade to the QD version.

Learned something today... AR pistol + AAC brake + shooting too close to a barrier = arm hair removal

Likewise to you Mike, nice pistol - I've been thinking about completing the Command Arms set up at the buffer tube, as their cover extends things out a bit and makes the pistol a bit more comfortable to shoot, but I ran out of budget. It's definitely something I have in mind for the future though. What optic do you have mounted?

Talk to me about the extension between the back of the receiver and the Thordsen tube cover...is that a folding hinge, or an extension of some sort?
