Thanks. I'll post pics in a little while. It was pretty easy though. Basically I had the back ring of the flash hider turned down so it would pass through the HG cap. So the second ring holds the cap to the HG. I think I still need to add a lock-washer behind that.

Here is how I made the Magpul HGs work on a 7.5" barrel.

Magpul HG

http://mrsolearysdesign.com/cms/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/2.jpg

HG cap. Found out it came out flush with end of barrel.

http://mrsolearysdesign.com/cms/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/3.jpg

Had the last ring of the FH turned down to fit thru the HG cap.

http://mrsolearysdesign.com/cms/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/4.jpg

Slid right in.

http://mrsolearysdesign.com/cms/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/5.jpg

Tightened it down so the second ring of the FH holds the cap and HG together.

http://mrsolearysdesign.com/cms/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/6.jpg

A little dremel and file work to the HG and fit right over the front sight. I plan on putting a rail gas block and front folding site on. I test fired yesterday and noticed the FH had
unscrewed itself. I think I need to add a spacer and lockwasher or a couple? Maybe Loctite? Ideas?

Heres my AR pistol ......  I call it the " Militant Midget "

I built the lower from a Palmetto State Armory "Blemished" Lower. PSA pistol Buffer kit  and PSA lower parts kit w/ FDE grip and trigger guard. Also installed a Troy Claymore Muzzle Brake so she could spit fire!

I need a better front sight and some optics. Nothing crazy as she is really only meant for fun at the range.

New upgrade from my recent post. Added a carbine length free float tube by ati, iron sights which I know the front one is backwards but it looks better and don't snag coming out my Machine Gun length case. I also have a sight-mark holographic red dot on her. I also took off the a2 bird cage flash hider and put on a Nice muzzle break. This thing shoots out fireballs like nobody's business. Its such a joy to shoot.

My first post and first AR-Pistol. Thanks for all the ideas!

Started out as a 7.5" RRA A2 upper.
Sun Devil Gun Metal Gray upper.
Superior lower.
A little figuring out how to make the Magpul HGs work, but I think its gonna work.

Interesting you should post pics looking down at the FSP and talk about how you secured the front of the HG.

Yes, that is quite interesting.  It's like an MOE with FSP cut-out.

The only AR uppers I'm aware of that you DON'T need a functional buffer tube of some type for are the ZM LR300 / Para TTR, Oly OA93, RRA PDS, .22LR ARs and the few random homebuilts floating around.

Everything else still has the recoil system in the buffer tube.

ETA: Add Faxon Firearms to that list when they go into production...

Sorry about the quality. My camera is out of town at the moment. So I'm stuck with iPhone5 quality.
Parts break down thus far;

Lower
DDLES Small Frame Glock Lower Receiver, 6065 Billet, Pictogram markings
PWS 6065 Pistol Buffer
12 Ounce Heavy Buffer made for 9mm
Wolff Extra Power Recoil Spring
Magpul MOE K Grip
Magpul MS3 QD Sling
Battle Arms Development Combat Ambidextrous Safety, Short Throw
Geissele Super Dynamic 3 Gun Trigger
Colt Small parts

Upper
VLTOR MUR-1 Upper Receiver
Raptor Ambidextrous Charging Handle
DDLES Glock Bolt Carrier
Troy Industries BUIS, Dioptic Tritium Set
Noveske 7" NSR
Noveske Rail Covers
Mossie Tactical Weapon Light Mount
Surefire X300 Ultra Weapon Light
BCM Chrome Lined 9mm Barrel
Vortex 9mm Flash Suppressor
Magpul RSA
LaRue Index Clips

Magazines
33 Round Glock 9mm Magazines

Receiver Markings filled HK style, red and white lacquer

I chopped the NSR rail so I could seat the X300 Ultra further to the rear to reduce how far the weapon light stuck out. I didn't want the light to stick out past the flash suppressor. The Mossie Tactical rail lowers the weapon light so it doesn't obstruct the sight picture as much. This will help me a great deal since I am adding an Aimpoint T1 with an absolute co-witness in the next few weeks.

Sorry I deleted an earlier picture - was really bad. Only have a cell phone. Here's a newer pic. It's no safe queen. It's an ex-LEO 6933 Commando upper, Colt BCG, NDS lower, unsure what the pistol extension is. Tried a SP sling and hatedd it - went to a GP style sling. I tapped the end of the buffer tube and added a cane tip. I will likely pull the CAA saddle even though I like how it feels - it slides forward. I may get a longer bolt and nut and try and get it tighter, but we'll see. The GP sling works really well to tighten up the sight picture - hasty sling style. Tehnically of course, with the VFG it's not a pistol, it's a 'firearm' but I may pull that - just use it as a handstop anyway. Might add a HS later. Anyway, sorry for the again, crappy pic, and it certainly is no beauty, but will be going with me in a pack in the backcountry and I don't have to worry about scratching it. Hell, I might even paint it!

BCM Chrome Lined 9mm barrel chopped by ADCO to 7.75" and contoured to .625". The front sight post shelf was removed. A stepped contour was added to the area around the chamber for weight reduction. The only thing I'm waiting on now is my bolt carrier from DDLES.

I used these lacquer sticks. I cleaned up the area with acetone, then heated the work surface with a heat gun. I heated the paint stick to the point that it was melting and rubbed it over the work area. I continued to heat the area until the paint liquified and settled into the engravings. I let it cool and dry some before wiping the excess away with a rag and some acetone.

I wish the red was a little darker.
