JSE surplus will allow you to backorder them.  They have been getting a lot in stock over the last few weeks so you might only have to wait a week or two.  I've been waiting for about 4 days now and when I called the other day they were shipping stuff from just about 60 order numbers before mine.

I should have back ordered it a long time ago.

Hornaday American Whitetail 308 win 150 grain.  I have a bunch of ball m80, but wanted to put some higher power rounds through it to break it in.

If I didn't have the extened key mod set, already I would have pulled the trigger on this! Hmmmmmm I still might. Thanks for the link!

I wanted a monolithic upper from Mega.
I feel they should have been allowed to continue.
I understand the patent issue vs deep pockets.
I will not buy the patented product!

As soon as I can afford another upper, I am going to build an AR10 version with a Noveske 21" barrel.

My MKM extended rifle upper came in a couple of weeks ago. It's really impressive as far as lightness and structural rigidity, I was trying to get a 308 that wasn't a pasture pig. I'm happy with the results.

Mega lower
Mega MKM ex rifle upper
Lilja 20" light contour barrel (half a pound or better lighter than other medium vontours)
VLTOR A5 tube, H3 buffer, JP carbine 308 spring, ACS-L stock
PWS triad flash suppressor (to be replaced by pending Thunderbeast brake and suppressor)
'doctored' NB BCG
CMC flat trigger
Leupold 4-12 VXR with ballistic firedot

Did you order the barrel straight from Lilja or did you find another online vendor? I only ask because when I was figuring out how I wanted to build my MA-TEN I had in my build plan a Rainier Arms 20" Ultramatch and one of the Match NiBor BCG. After reading some negative comments on there Match BCG and some less than stellar performance on those Ultramatch barells I am looking at other possibilities. I have been considering calling or ordering a entire JP setup from sprint to buffer to low mass BCG to there entire barrel setup including one of the JP Colley muzzle brakes. I guess I am looking at other options. Hell I am even thinking of sending what I have to GA Precision and just have them finish it up.

I ordered it from Lilja and it was in stock and shipped immediately. I haven't shot but 20 rounds through it, and that with a 2-7 cheap scope, but I can tell it's at least a sub moa barrel. One of the 5 shot groups was sub .5 moa with Fed 168 match. It's a slightly lighter profile than medium contour and weighs a little more than 2.5 lbs. I had purchased the NB BCG while waiting for the upper, unaware of the problems with the bearing surfaces. It was raspy when i installed it but I polished the bearing surfaces with diamond paste and removed about 80 percent of the zinginess. I'm convinced there are no rough edges and am using it. However if I didn't already purchase the BCG, I'd get the JP lightweight and an adjustable gas block. I was tempted to just take the hit on the carrier and buy a JP anyway just for the 5 oz weight reduction.
I'd buy the barrel again in a heartbeat. Oh, if you get one, it's a DPMS barrel extension but the gas length is Armalite rifle length, so get your gas tube from them.

gimmedeal:
why would a lighter bolt assembly be better? I always thought heavier was better (I had a 10oz. one made for 5.56m but have yet to install).
I guess a lighter bolt assembly is dampened better by the recoil spring but should have higher velocity travelling back and harder on the trigger?
Link Posted: 9/30/2013 11:14:26 AM EDT
[#14]
I'm no expert on gas systems. I do know that less reciprocating mass can reduce felt recoil. Look at the 3 gun rifles and race pistols with lightened slides. The trick is being able to regulate the gas (hence the adjustable gas block) to produce an adequate but not excessive gas impulse to operate the action.

Shadow Ops Weaponry has a 308 BCG as well. I dont think these come from the same mfg as the 726 Ind. But I could be wrong. Here it is.

I think ar15news.com still has a coupon code to get it cheaper. Here.

Not sure if its expired or not. I personally have no experience with it, but it is a good deal. I sprung for a LaRue BCG off the EE. Paid a pretty penny for it, but is definitely worth it to me.

ETA: Youngs is supposed to start making more carriers in January once they are caught up with the AR15 BCGs. `

I need some advice. I got all my parts together except the buttstock. I'm using the 20" Mega barrel. Should I go with the MOE fixed rifle stock or the MOE fixed carbine stock? I'm gonna use Armalite buffer and spring either way but am torn between the two stocks. I've had the rifle length stock before and really liked it.

Anyone care to chime in? As always Im open to suggestions. I want to balance out the rifle more than anything. Im using the PRI Delta handguards, so it will be kinda heavy up front. Im leaning more towards a rifle length setup. I wish there were more options available in the rifle length area.

Would a JP barrel be a good barrel for a build?

I know they make a good bolt group (that is really pricey), but how are their barrels? GTG? Accurate and worth the cost?

Thanks!

They are good barrels. For the money I think you could have a better one made though. i am not sold on their barrel profiles either. Although their rifles do seem to shoot great.

For those of you with the bolt carrier groups made by 7.62 Industries (sold by Rainier Arms and some others) here is a quick tip. Mine was machined with the texture of a file and made a "zip" sound when manually cycled.

BEFORE:

This can't be good for the inside of the receiver. Despite having no wear to the inside of my receiver, I still wasn't happy with it and decided to smooth it up. I used a dremel with a polishing wheel and some 600 grit lapping compound. After about 15-20 minutes of polishing the bearing surfaces of the BCG, it smoothed up nicely.

Wow.... it's amazing someone would allow something machined that poorly to leave the factory. It's even more amazing that a retailer would then turn around and sell it to you as if there was nothing wrong with it.

That should have been sent back. Screw that.

Man I was really considering one of these for my build, but I may have to take a pass based on what I am seeing in these pictures. I would be mortified if something like that left my shop, and wouldn't be able to keep a straight face if I asked my clients to pay $320 for it.

Is there anyone on this forum from either the retailer or MFG that can comment?

7.62 Industries no longer has a website, not sure if they are even still in business. Im guessing too many people were sending them back due to poor machining. I wish I had just sent it back and gone with the JP but Rainier Arms said it should be fine.

MidwayUSA has stripped DPMS carriers in stock along with all the parts for it but the bolt. Total cost $160.

You can buy an enhanced bolt from JP, but it will cost you $175 alone.

$335 total cost for a bolt group with a JP enhanced bolt isn't horrible though, I guess, considering those 7.62 Industries bolt groups were going for $320 with horrible machining.

I am really torn about what to do for the barrel on this. I was planning on a rainier arms ultra match but some quick Google work has shown that they are not a great as I once thought. I am currently trying to figure out if I am going to order a complete JP barrel setup with gas block, brake, and BCG, or if I am going to send what I have to GAP so that they can put there pixie dust on it and do there magic.

Just wondering if anyone has any luck with the Mega barrels? Any ide where to get them? Looking at them as a possibility

I called GAP a while ago they are not doing any barrel work on customers uppers at this time.  Mega barrels are ok. Lothar, Lilja , Krieger all have ready made barrels for 308 gas guns.  You can also get an Obermeyer , Rock or Bartlein blank and have a great barrel made. As for bolt carriers, get a JP complete or Young MFG carrer and JP bolt. Best bolt on the market is the LMT MWS bolt but you can't find those too easy.

And? If you read the thread they had a bad batch ones with bad coating and replaced the ones that had any issues.  I have one of the Gen 2 bolts with the dual ejectors and its way better than my SR-25 bolt . Pretty sure KAC is moving the same design for suppressed and heavy use.

In that case, I think you're letting a vocal minority sway your decision.  It's my opinion that any problems with the Ultramatch barrels are super far and between.  For every one complaint (which Rainier will happily backup with a satisfaction guarantee), how many unwritten positive experiences do you think there are?  I think there are a ton...

But I have no idea why you would buy a Rainier arms barrel when for an extra $100 or so you could buy a Lilja.

Well, I can think of a few practical reasons:

1) Availability.  I know when I bought my 20" Ultramatch, it was pretty much the only thing available at the time (along with the 24").  This is probably much less of an issue, currently.
2) $100+ can go a pretty long way toward subsidizing another upgrade on the rifle--stock, trigger, scope mount/rings, etc.

To each their own though.  And by all means, people should buy what they want, if they can swing it.  My main point though, was that he's fretting over a few less than stellar reports regarding the Ultramatch barrels (on the internet no less), but pretty much every consumer-level product in existence suffers from the "vocal minority" to some degree.

Why not get a Geissele SSA-E or  high speed instead? Both would be better options, although they aren't cheap.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.  I'd also consider a Geissele G2S (same as the SSA, only cheaper).

Regarding the G2S from another forum:
The G2S is made with the same tool steel as the SSA and the sears are also wire edm'ed. The main differences with the SSA are a different way of holding the hammer pin in, different pins, no laser marking and only spot MP check. Visually, from the outside of the gun there is no difference from the SSA and the feel and reliability is the same.

Emphasis mine.

I just sold the Mega Arms CH that came with my upper and looking into the PRI or the Raptor. Any issues with any of those? One better than the other?

In regards to the PRI CH does anyone know what the difference between the Combat and the Military Big Latch is?

Combat latch extends a little further than the military latch, making it easier to grasp with gloves, etc. or if you have an optic blocking part of the CH.  The combat latch also has serrations on the latch.

I recently changed out my build and went with a Noveske 21" barrel rather than the Mega.  I found the barrel locally from the EE, paid a fair price.  The main reason i went with the Noveske/AR10 BCG was that i  have concerns with my 762 Industries BCG.

I have yet to shoot the new setup, but i have a question.  The gas block is out past the rail.  I know i see it often in pictures here, but i have never had a rifle with the block unprotected.

Is this an issue?

I have another upper, no rail yet, that i plan on building out with the mega barrel.  But, i am thinking i might buy an extended rail and put the noveske barrel on that so the gas block is covered.  What are your thoughts, esteemed members of arfcom.
