Oh trust me, she doesn't have to be anywhere near mine and there's hair everywhere.  FREAKING EVERYWHERE.  I wake up puuling it out of my nose and mouth.  I brush her once a day and vacuum at least once, usually twice a week.  Doesn't matter.  It's a real PITA trying to take quality pics - straight gotta bust out the compressed air, haha.  Every morning she brushes up against the wife's black pants or skirt and loads it up with hair, pretty funny to watch until it happens to me.

Troy announced a TRX Extreme for the 308 guns so I snagged a rainer to use on mine in the mean time.

Yeah, I have one of the TRX's on order, they said they'll ship out at the end of the week (though we'll see if that happens)

Orly?

Where from? I need to get in on that.

I ordered directly from the Troy website.  I selected it to go into my "wishlist" and once it was there, it allowed me to buy it.  They then called me and let me know it was on backorder, but would be shipping this week.  So.....hopefully that happens.

Anyone need a 9" Daniel Defense lite rail???

Without milling out the shelves in the Armalite upper, it won't work.

I talked to a couple of different peeps at TROY about the 308 TRX rails. They said they'll be shipping in the various sizes in about two weeks in staged availability. I want to know the weights before I buy and he said to call him late next week when he might actually have one in his hands to weigh. They're definitely going to be heavier than their 556 counterparts - just hope not too much heavier.
I asked why they went with the old style clamp mount and he didn't really have a good answer.
Just hope they are light and strong...

Oh, I know that. I have discussed it in a few of the MA-Ten threads (not sure if it was this one or not) Thats what I have planned for an Armalite .243 upper. I just want to see what it looks like. If someone has both, the upper should pin right on (although the mags wont seat unless the mag shelf is dealed with)

The rifle length KAC URX is the lightest out there right now (be sure and include a sling mount and folding front sight when comparing to other brands) at 17oz or 17.2. something like that. Its also 600 bucks by the time you get one and get it installed.

I would like a 12-14" Troy rail to be around that mark if not a wee bit less.

My 11" Rainier is 18oz I think.

Yeah my DD Lite 12.0 is 17.1oz, but no QD socket. 18.0oz with a GS QD mount.
I really hope the 13.8" TROY comes in under 15oz with the barrel nut.

Very nice build Cowboy!!

My sob story:
I've been waiting for my FFL dealer to get back in town(he's been in the lower 48) so I decided to check the only dealer I was going to buy my upper/lower from.  Of course it's just my luck and they are sold out!!!  They had 8 sets 2 weeks ago so I figured I would be alright and of course I get a crazy feeling tonight, so I check there site, and SOLD OUT!  I'm going to give them a call in the morning and see if they have any inbound and if they mihgt extend there GREAT price for me until they get some in.

Plan B is buy locally.  Locally they can get the upper/lower set but will cost me $60 mor then I planned/hoped to spend.

Sob story over, I'll make another drink and carry on...

Quick range report.  Went to function test and sight in my scope so no groups yet, just a rough estimate.  Rifle runs perfectly.  No failures of any kind  The Rainier Ultramatch barrel appears to shoot at least 1 MOA.  Will know when I get a chance to shoot some groups and get velocity readings.  Overall, I'm very impressed with the quality of the MA-Ten and it's compatibility with an Armalite BCG and Pmags.

I had my Armalite AR-10 BCG out of my MA-TEN today, cleaning it up and checkin the extractor and gas rings. I have a Rock River LAR-8 also and have an extra set of gas rings. The McFarland gas rings I have tried out in the past for a AR-15 left something to be desired. The Armalite AR-10 BCG uses the McFarland gas rings and while they work fine I wanted to see if the Rock River LAR-8 gas rings would fit the Armalite bolt, they fit like a glove. I have not shot my MA-TEN with the Rock River gas rings installed ( Texans and cold don't mix well). If the RRA gas rings don't work I will let everyone know. Gotta go the Big Brown Truck just pulled up with a big box with LARUE markings on it....a new AR-15 midlength is about to be born. Gotta scrub in.

I am getting an itchy mouse clicking finger to buy a barrel and BCG from Alpha Shooting Sports. They have a 16" midlength barrel for $199, and a DPMS style BCG for $189. Since this project (barrel cut to 13.7) is an experiment, it might be better to experiment with a cheap barrel instead of something better in case it does work out as planned...

has anybody here purchased from Alpha Shooting Sports before?

FWIW, 308 BCG gas rings are far less important than 556 BCG gas rings.

In a 308, you could almost get away with NO gas rings and still function fine.  The gas system (lengths, pressures, reciprocating weight etc.) is just SO much different on 308 AR's.
I wouldn't spend too much time trying to "fine-tune" the rings.  I've got the McFarland ring that came on my Armalite BCG and it's loose as hell - never had an issue.

Well I learn something new everyday. The gas rings that came on my Bolt were loose after about 75 rounds, but the rifle was functioning fine.  I was beginning to wonder if maybe somehow I got an out of spec Bolt or Carrier. I got 2 new sets of rings (along with some spare parts) and have went thru 2 already. I have about 200 rounds thru the MA-TEN. Thanks for the info....my OCD really gets going sometimes.

i am thinking of dumping the UBR for a PRS, i now have the ubr stock and slash buffer and spring.  besides getting a 308 PRS, i just wanted to be sure i get the right stuff.  Just to be sure, i would need a AR-15 A2 rifle buffer tube, spacer, screw, and a ar-10 rifle spring and a ar-10 rifle buffer?  Do i need a special AR-10 buffer tube? Do i need the spacer?

You need a rifle buffer tube.  A1, A2, etc. all use the same tube.  You don't need any spacers.  The PRS comes with the screw so you won't need that either.  You'll need an AR10 rifle buffer and spring.

The answer to the dpms catch is still up in the air. Some have claimed they drop in no issues. I had issues and they didnt work as drop in. I didnt mess with spring cutting yet, as i just popped the ar15 parts in there and will use them untill there is an issue.

I had to "polish" mine to work as it was too tight otherwise.  If you have a Dremel, no worries.

Mine fit but wasn't as smooth working as I like. A few minutes with my Dremel and a polishing tip and it is smooth as silk. I put in a regular bolt catch at first, stopping a big BCG with a small catch just didn't seem right to me. With the small catch my PMAG followers would just barely engage the catch  (it did work and I had no problems)  but,  that pushed me to try the DPMS .308 catch.

Some elbow grease and 320 grit or 400 grit wet sandpaper should do it. Got mine at Home Depot, this way you won't have to worry about overdoing it. Just be aware of the parts that will be visible when the rifle is assembled, unless you like it in the white. I just polished the part of the bolt catch that goes into the lower, no need to do any other parts of it.

I have had mine built for a while and just got around to putting the bolt catch in tonight. I had three parts kits on hand when I tried to get it finished a couple of weeks ago, two DPMS an a Stag arms I think. With all three kits I had trouble with the spring being too large to fit all the way into the plunger hole (not sure if that is the real name). WIth the spring not going in all the way the plunger wouldn't sit down and function. I messed with one spring for a while with the needle nose but gave up.

I ordered a couple of more plungers and springs from Rock River and had the bolt catch installed in five minutes. I am going to run it for a while with a normal ar15 bolt catch until I have a reason to place a parts order with someone for the larger 308 version. Does anyone know if the Armalite bolt catch will work? I can't seem to remember if that was covered in the past 20 pages.

If you are talking about the Armalite AR-10 bolt catch, I am pretty sure the answer is no. The MA-Ten is designed to use AR-15 lower parts (not .308 AR parts) to increase the availability and interchangeability of parts.

Why the armalite bolt catch over the dpms style?  I have an AR15 DD lower parts kit waiting for my lower and am wondering if the DPMS 308 bolt catch would be a better idea?

That is not an AR-10 bolt catch. It is an Armalite AR-15 bolt catch. I prefer the feel of the Armalite AR-15 catch. As far as I know, and AR-10 bolt catch will not work, and the DPMS 308 version will work with some grinding/polishing.  Remember, Mega designed the MA-Ten set to use AR-15 lower parts, not AR-10 or LR308 parts. (someone correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I remember off the top of my head)
