Thanks! To be fair, the Holland wasn't ever really finished, and the one 02overland put together looks AWESOME. But I really dig this little shooter; it's got a great balance to it and I can't wait for the can to come through. Only thing I hate about 15-22s are the magazines. Why in the hell did S&W make them so long and awkward compared to standard USGI mags when they STILL don't hold 30 rounds? They should've just made them the same damn length.

Well after reading what exactly a "recce" rifle is, it doesn't meet quite a few of the specs. I don't have a SS heavy profile barrel or"match grade barrel". It is 1/8 twist and PWS does have accurate  .223 wylde barrels but I would rather not be "that guy" . Plus it's gas piston which is definitely not recce. Thanks for the support though, I'm going to leave it to the dudes who worked hard at putting together an actual recce replica

Meh,,, I think there is ONE guy (PatriotMan) on here that cloned the "Unicorn" SEAL Recce... Lilja barrel, NF scope, KAC rail, T-1 offset RDS, atlas bipod... And as sweet as it is, it's only really accurate to that ONE operator's set-up, and that actually isn't the clone of the "Unicorn" rifle posted by an NF rep.

Theres a shit ton of wiggle room in the "Recce" thread... Just as long as the sumbitch doesn't have an M4 barrel profile, 16"- 14.5" barrel length (13.7" and even 12.5" have been posted, and haven't been shunned!) With a Variable powered scope (1-4x min, but hell I don't even have glass on mine yet!!! lol)

Free Float handguard, and absolutely no Front sight post!!!

Oh yeah, and usually a bipod attached... I've got one, but usually shoot without it on a bag!

Some of the the M4A1 SOPMOD Block II with variable power scopes (Leupold Mk8) are even Recce set-ups... We accept them, but an M4A1 with a different barrel or FH isn't accepted by them! lol

ETA: Pic thread
Still waiting on glass... Vortex PST 2.5-10x44 and LT104 getting ordered next friday...

My bad... I guess a 16 inch barreled, carbine gassed , free floated, 1/8 twist w/ acog don't fit if it has a m4 profile.

               Pics removed.

                    My apologies, Fastfoot

Ok. I think it's close enough then. Barrel is 1/8 twist and free float, chambered in 223 wylde, trijicon tr24g 1-4x scope, b5 bravo (fits the adjustable stock).  Still waiting on my bipod mount and bipod.

I saw this was discussed a number of pages back but I wanted to see if those with experience could elaborate.

I currently have a NF 2.5-10x24. How does the x32 compare? How much more of a "forgiving" optic is it vs. the x24? I love the physical size of the x24 but for me it requires very consistent head position. I found myself fatigued after a longer shooting session. If the x32 offers a considerably larger eye box then I would consider sacrificing the size of the x24.

This is my take on the Recce build and one of my favorite builds, super accurate and CQB capable.

Spikes Punisher lower and upper
DD Lite Rail 12"
ALG single chamber brake waiting to replace A2
Wilson Combat 16" Recon barrel mid gas and WC .750 gas block, .840 under hand guard
Wilson Combat m16 BCG and heavy buffer.
Wilson Combat lower parts kit and buffer assembly.
RRA 2 stage NM trigger
Magpul K2 grip and Mbus flips.
Vltor imod stock, works good for my wife since shorter LOP and K2 grip brings her hand closer to trigger.

Glass is Vortex Viper PST 1x4 illuminated MOA reticle in a QD Burris PEPR. Probably replace PEPR with an ADM or something lighter, but this works great for $60 at Palmetto memorial sale.

These groups were all shot with remanufactured Ultramax 55gr Nosler's that I hunt with. I'm sure with good 69gr Sierra Match Kings it will be a laser beam :).

This is at 250 yards off bags, other two bullets were directly above the paper stuck in the wood back stop.

These next two at 100 yards with the same Ultramax 55gr Nosler's.

Love this thread!! The Recce/recon rifle is my favorite AR configuration by far.

Here is my Recce, completed yesterday and test fired today:
" />

" />

PSA upper
Shaw 16" fluted SS barrel 1/9 Wylde
Nickel Boron BCG
Midwest Industries 10" free float rails
Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24
ADM Recon mount
Harris bipod/notched legs/GGG adapter
Stream light polytac/Vltor thumbscrew mount
Troy rail covers
Troy modular vertical grip (sometimes)
PSA lower/LPK
Magpul CTR stock
Magpul MIAD

Soon to add:
Geissele trigger
B5/LMT Sopmod
Gear Sector light mount
Troy BUIS
Suppressor

I'm also probably going to go to a 12" rail and scout mount. Also considering ditching the Harris for an Atlas bipod. That's down the road though.

So far I'm loving this rifle.   Shot 180 rounds today and was very happy with the results. Can't wait to see what a Geissele does for group size

My parts and pieces collection resembles an actual rifle, a really nice shooting one at that.
It has an Adams Arms Piston with a Walther Lothar 16" barrel and a RRA 2 stage trigger.
The Atlas belongs elsewhere, but I think the SWFA 1-6 will stay (that way i wont be tempted to sell it)
A good friend from my days in the USAF has staked claim to it with the idea that he will actually buy it from me someday.  (im not holding my breath)

Here is my humble submission - a sort of recce-inspired rifle, I think.

LMT Defender 2000 upper/lower in .223 Wylde with mid-length gas
Douglas Premium/CLE barrel 16", matched bolt
Geissele ALG ACT Combat Trigger
Geissele 10" Super Modular Rail Black
Magpul BUIS
Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR with RRA cantilever mount (yeah, I know I'm bridging and I'm ok with it)
Magpul foregrip

http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj606/tperkins_esq/PTPR/PTPR05_zps89d4048f.jpg

Got the scope zero'd and that's about it so far, but .... I like it.

I'll tell ya what I think....so get ready!

I was about to stick a high-dollar barrel on my 6920, since I was already putting on an expensive PRI free-float tube. A guy that was helping me do the build insisted I shoot the stock M4 barrel first before I spent more money than needed. I did as he suggested, and to my surprise it shot so good as is, that an 18" match barrel couldn't be justified at the time. So, kudos to you for not getting rid of something that works just because the build list requires it!

I guess everyone will say ours aren't really "recce" type rifles without the 18" match barrel, and I am sure they are right, however, to the untrained eye, you can't tell what barrel I have by casual glance, and certainly not by looking at the groups it shoots. I'm happy with mine. I do need an Geiselle or at least and RRA NM trigger. I just can't afford it right now. I am thinking about ditching the PEPR mounts for LaRue or ADM in the near future. I am tickled as a pig in poop with the MTAC scope, however, I am thinking of stepping up the 1.5x-6x version.

I like having these scopes because of their compact size and light weight, and they are the proper optics on my SEAL Recce and 416 Recce. But it's small objective lens means a smaller FOV and tighter restrictions on how much your head can move behind the optic. Not a great picture, but this is the view through it at targets that are 700, 800, 900 and 1000 yards

Do you have any experience with the x32? I've recently tried the x24 and wasn't pleased with the "eye box" forgiveness as you pointed out. I'm going to try the x32 and see if it offers a considerable improvement. I love the x24 for the compact aspect but it punishes you for poor head position. I see that the x42 would be the most forgiving but I can't get myself to put that big bell on my rifle. I hope the x32 is the sweet spot.

The 32 does have a little more forgiveness. As well as a slightly noticeable improvement at dawn and dusk. The 42 would probably be awesome, but IMO it's too big for an AR platform. Maybe a 308 AR or a SCAR-H

Agreed. I hope to take at the x32 this weekend. Maybe I can do a side by side comparison and let folks know what I think. I want to love the x24 but I was exhausted after my range session as I was straining to maintain my positioning. I am also swapping out my SOPMOD to try a UBR so we will see if that helps with fine tuning the LOP with cheekweld. I find myself starting to create a recce/SPR hybrid.
