Still something missing here...
Is it necessary to change the receiver extension and/or buffer when changing calibers? |
|
Know what you don't know...
|
If I'm not mistaken only the buffer and spring must be changed. Receiver extension doesn't.

So the 5.56 upper uses a standard carbine buffer and the .308 uses a shorter one?

Colt found a way to make a receiver extension that works with both 5.56 and 7.62 buffers. I'm guessing the 7.62 buffer is not a standard AR-10/SR-25 buffer. Remember this is Colt, they set standards, not follow them. |

This is the same buffer that came in my 6940. The adapter fits any milspec upper so just change the buffer & spring, swap the upper and you're good. Monday I got 3 spare Colt spec magpul magazines. I would like to see that. I have done that with an M40A1 and A3. If I had Scout/snipers that could do that with open sights, We would be even better. I'm gonna tell The CO of MARSOC we need to drop the M40A3 and pick up the 901 and whomever shot that group needs to go teach us in the Corps marksmanship. LMFAO! I am half joking so I hope nobody gets butt hurt but I will respectfully call B.S. on that group with open sights. Semper FI.

Shame you will have to send it back.
Any QD sockets on the bottom of the rail? Any cuts for KAC panels? With the adapter installed, how much heavier is the lower then a 5.56 lower. With a 5.56 upper installed, can you break the gun open like a shotgun? Man, I would love to see the look on your face when you have to send it back. |

Doc,
So you are saying, if I had a stockless AR15 lower, and a stockless 901 lower w/ 5.56 adapter that the 901 /w adapter would be 1.5 pounds heavier? What is the adapter made of, alumn or steel? |
