Apparently Dallas PD used 1 pound of C4 to kill the cop killer. I know nothing about C4. Is that alot? Is there a normal amount to use in the field? I'm just trying to figure out how big of boom it was.

That's enough explosive filler for about 2.5 hand grenades (they use Comp. B, which is similar, but not identical). Pure concussive blast, no planned fragmentation other than environmental debris.

Concussive blast would be ears blown and lungs to mush?

He was dead, it's a moot point.

A pound is less than a full stick (at least .mil issued stuff).  I would not want within arm's reach of it though, frag or no frag.

[military] C4 most commonly comes in 1.25lb blocks. It's a pretty hefty boom, but it's not a lot when it comes to demolitions. It will straight up fucking wreck someone though.

For AP use though, the grenade comparison isn't right because grenades are filled with Composition B, and their killing power comes from the frag created by the casing not the explosive itself. The best Anti personnel comparison is the m18 Claymore which uses 1lb of C4 as its charge (again it's devastating effects are from frag as well)

comp B isn't used much outside of explosive munitions any more.
