VA math 130% = 90%. I should have done this years ago.  Will be meeting with rep for appeal and unemployability so I can get to 100%

It only took 3.5 week!  I might work once per week now.

A lot of people on here don't like disability, they think you are on the take.

And it is just a weird post.

The VA doesn't add up the total of your disability ratings. If they did, I would be at 110%. As it is I'm rated at 70% and get paid 100% UI since my disabilities keep me from working.

Believe me, there are plenty of times that I wish I could work.

One of my issues was 70%.   I meet We'd. With the State VA Rep.  I am going for unemployable which is true.   I could not keep a job and can not perform my degree as required for unemployability.  According to regs I should easily qualify.

To recap, you started a thread about your disability rating.

You are now snarky when someone asks about your disabilities.

Does that about sum it up?

If your disability is none of anyone's business, then why did you start a thread about it?

Then why bring it up?  When I was a kid at an air show this fat mother fucker went on and on about being a disabled vet. When I asked him about his disability I was castigated and told I should never ask questions like that....

Had I been a vet at the time, not only would I have asked the question, but given it right back at him...he brought it up, not me.  My guess, it was FSA shit 1980's style.

VA Math is easier when you understand the rules:

You are 100% at the start.
40% of 100% = 40%; 40% rating, 60% left
30% of 60% = 18%, 58% rating, 42% left
30% of 42% = 12.6%, 70.6% rating, 29.4% left
30% of 29.4% = 8.82%, 79.42% rating, 20.58% left
10% of 20.58% = 2.06%, 81.48% rating, 18.52% left

So there is how 140% can equal 80%. Look at that, I retained something from the WTU briefs.

Be aware that sometimes when you file an appeal they look over everything, and not just what you appealed. I've heard of guys appealing for one thing and losing another. That's all speculation though.

Unemployability will pay you at 100%, but you can't work legally. Make sure that extra 10% is worth that.

Link Posted: 6/12/2016 2:47:11 AM EDT
[#31]
Just be careful with appeals.  My original rating was 80%.  I went with that for 6-8 months. This is after 21 years and a retirement.  I tried to do jobs that I had experience with. After about 5 to 6 months of doing things, my body was to wrecked for the week ends recoup session.  Wasn't able to work for a few weeks, so I decided to see if I could get my rating up closer the 100%.  I was upped to 90%.  Still needing to work, I decided to try for 100% UI.
Now I was warned that if pushing to hard that it could backfire on me.  They can re evaluate every thing and drop some of the 10% or 20% or what nots which could end up dropping your original score to a lower amount.  I had the right paper work, I had I formation about trying a couple of jobs that tried and could no longer do.  So I was able to get the 100% UI.

Just be careful when and how you try to get your rating up.  Try doing some jobs you have experience in and if I'd doesn't work for you, document why it won't work.  My own opinion to go immediately the next day and say you want your rating upped.  So that you tried but were not able, and that's the reason for trying to change your rating.

That was my experience, your mileage may differ.  Good luck

A lot of great advice here in this thread.

People find information in some of the oddest places. I was rated 70% originally unemployable which paid 100%. But then someone reevaluated after a second Brain Surgery and they bumped it to 100% total and perm..

Wish I could still work. The pay cut was substantial, but I make it work. And I enjoyed my AFSC..

Yes you can work if your rating is 100%.  If you have let say a rating of 80% but being
Payed at 100% unemployable you cannot work without the risk of loosing your 100%
Rating and being dropped back to 80% or lower if they decide reevaluate your case.
And then the over payment you might have to pay back from the time you became
Employed.

Correct. Being rated at 100% disabled and being rated at 100% UI are two different things. UI (unemployable individual) rating means that you cannot work or have any source of income.

I am rated at 70% but paid at 100% UI and am considered totally and permanently disabled by the VA (and Social Security).

If I was rated at a straight 100% by the VA then I could actually use the Social Security work program and work part time.

Since I have the UI rating, I can't work at all.

I would rather have my health back instead.

We all have seen the fat slob at the gun show bragging/complaining about his VA disability while drinking from a 44oz drink and mentioning his bad back and glandular problem that makes them fat while finger fucking an AK and talking about their time in the Green Berets.  Some people then associate EVERYONE on disability as a fat slob that that is too lazy to actually work.

I understand why he made his comment, even if I don't agree.

However, some are in it just for the money. I have caught people faking their injury when they come see me for an appeal physical. In the clinic the POS couldn't even stand up on his own.  After the appointment, I watched him go outside and remove three 90lb tuff boxes from the back of his truck, dig through them and put them all back.  I documented it in his medical records and on his appeal form  that I submitted to the VA.  After coming back in to pick up his copy, the POS altered the forms (He was unaware I had already submitted them) and submitted them himself through his VA rep/lawyer. Best part?   His appeal % came back lower (approx. 10% total), his Lawyer dropped him as a client and he was given an ART 15 on his way out the door because no one wanted to court martial him.

This guy deserved the 30% he was originally given, maybe even 40-50 on a bad day, for his two issues but tried to work the system and fucked himself for life.

This post might make me sound like an asshole but part of my job is to protect the .gov too.  I don't want my tax dollars paying for this POS.

I got mine. People need to understand. V A disability compensation and regular ssi disability are 2  totally separate things.  I don't tell everyone why I get mine. And really it's none of their business. If they didn't serve they can stfu right now.

This and I am with the did not serve STFU comment.

I agree.  I'm a vet.  Why did you start thread if you won't answer simple questions?  Thank you for your service, btw............but damn, don't get bitter when someone asks honest questions.

Very well explained.  When I'm working with 11Bs, this type of math makes their eyes go big and gloss over.

Very well explained.  When I'm working with 11Bs, this type of math makes their eyes go big and gloss over.

Received  90% but 100% unemployability permanent today.  Back pay to come.  Oklahoma is good to their vets.
