A couple cool Space/Universe threads recently, which always gets the brain boggled when you try to think deep on certain things.  Like, was there a beginning?  Is there an end?  New theory on this topic, which is something I've always thought:  That there was never a beginning, it was just something that always existed.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2947967/Did-Big-Bang-happen-Quantum-model-predicts-universe-NO-beginning-explain-dark-energy.html

"Our
universe, according to Einstein's theories, is around 13.8 billion
years old and formed from an infinitely small point during the Big Bang. While
most people accept this model, scientists still can't explain what
happened inside this tiny point - called a singularity – or what came
before it.

Now,
two physicists have put forward a radical new model which suggests the
Big Bang didn't take place - and that our universe has no beginning and
no end."

When the various religions state that we cannot know the face of God or reproduce images of Allah or Whoever, they are stating Man's inability to comprehend the truth about The Universe.  We do not have any idea what "It" is so we invent fantasy stories (science included)

Reminds me of a Marvel comic book story from the '60s.

Hardly a new concept, even then.

Trying to put science and religion on equal footing isn't going to make them equal.

All invented by and believed in by man.

We need to believe in something to justify our existence.

It is our nature.

A good quote for this.

The gist of the story is that their model precludes a situation where all of the universe's particles came from one point, and that means that the Big Bang could not have happened.
(as I understand it; it's a Daily Mail synopsis we're working from, after all)

That is followed by explaining that by setting (abitrarily?) the mass of the graviton, they can explain other cosmological phenomena.

Could be BS, could be a breakthrough, but at the moment it sounds a bit like Daily Mail click bait.

One scientist 'invented' the fantasy of F=ma and a few short centuries later that was all you needed to put a man on the moon.

Some have been claiming "let there be light ..." for a couple of thousand years but had nothing more than the mastery of candlelight, until some scientists came along and 'invented' the fantasy of electromagnetism.

Surely, some invented fantasies are more useful than others.

Well, we can discuss that once we agree on what exactly 'time' means.

For now, I'm going with this:

"TIme is God's way of keeping everything from happening all at once".

I forget who it I'm paraphrasing but whatever.

...but to God, or any other beings outside of time, everything does happen all at once.

Just a nitpick over the statement, "fantasy of electromagnetism".

Its really a philosophical argument, similar to the debate over mathematics being invented vs us discovering mathematics. Seeing as how humans do not have completet knowledge, we make mistakes and are, to borrow a religious term, "fallible"; my bias is towards the mathematics & science describes natural occurrences line of thought.

Correct. Man did not "invent" mass or electromagnetism. These are things we try to understand and in some cases (as Newton's 2nd Law) attempt to utilize them for our benefit.

p.s. There are a lot of known constants and truths in our realm of understanding. I only question when someone postulates a theory and people accept it as fact.

Here's a thread from yesterday on the matter...
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1716525_No_Big_Bang__Quantum_equation_predicts_universe_has_no_beginning.html&page=6

And, that dailymail article, or at least the way the OP quoted it, seems to be a complete misrepresentation of the paper and its conclusions.
