F1 has officially gone full retard.
Lap times will be within a few seconds of GP2 times on race day. |

Never been to a formula race but used to be able to hear the German grand Prix from the golf course in Hockenheim. Very loud machines.

Red Bull are notorious sandbaggers but Newey designs do have a history of overheating due to extremely tight packaging.
The WDCs he won with McLaren-Mercedes during the Hakkinen Era were very closely run affairs due to engine overheating issues. And there was also the issue with Red Bull alternator failures as recently as last year. ETA: As seen from the plan view, the taper on the rear of the Red Bull is pretty severe. Looks pretty though. |

After that, they have been unable to build and engin that would not burn out every other race..... And they (maFIA) introduced the RPM limit next season.... |

Ecclestone, who railed against the introduction of energy recovery-powered turbo V6 engines, said he isn't taking the blame. "They (the FIA and the teams) insisted on these new engines," he said. "If they wanted to race like this they should go to Le Mans." Ecclestone said the arguments about saving fuel, with each driver now limited to just 100 kilos of fuel per race, don't even stack up. "Mercedes are taking 23 trucks with them everywhere. If they really wanted to save fuel they should stop that," he insisted. Article up on the F1Live24 app about the FIA requesting cross section design data from the teams. Apparently the FIA has some concerns about the safety of the new noses. The want cross section areas vertically and horizontally of the nose 50, 150 and 300mm from the tip of the nose.

If you wrote a book, I'd pay money to read it. I have long threatened to do just that... Please do. Would you ever consider heading back to F1 with Honda if they offered? My time in F1 was all with the Mclaren/Honda combo so in some ways it seems appealing. I have spoken with several people there over the years and it is surprising how many of those that I worked with are still working for them, Ron always said that his goal was to create a place where everyone could retire from if they so desired. When I first started there we were a workforce of 75, this grew to around 300 by the time I left and we all know how big it is now... The place in Woking was only ever meant to be a temporary move until a site could be found to have everything under one roof, the search took decades and spanned the country but ironically ended in.....................Woking. Would I consider going back? Ron told me that the door was always open if I decided to return but I don't relish the thought of moving again, (I've lived in 5 different countries), and as I am now a resident of California I don't think the weather in the UK would suit me too well. The only thing drawing me there is the fact that my daughter just moved there last November, I'd like to visit her. |

What are the thoughts on Lotus's Asymmetrical nose?
I've got 2 theories, 1) It is designed to take advantage of the typical clockwise running of the tracks 2) It is designed to "1/2" the disadvantageous new aerodynamic regulations I admit, I may be talking out of my ass, but if there was a way to take advantage of the new rules these seem like possible solutions. |

It's asymmetrical in order to conform to the crash structure regulations. The longer side is the actual crash structure, while the shorter side exists to complete the "tunnel" which channels the airflow under the nose and around the side pods. Lotus are currently using their promotional 100kms at Jerez (which has turned into a de facto Renault shakedown)...so we should get some better pics.
