Quoted: Agreed. The fuel-flow limit is the biggest problem, IMHO. The engines are running about 4,000 RPMs below what they were designed to do, and about 9,000 below what they probably could do. The sound would be a hell of a lot better, power would be incredible, and fuel-use strategy would really come into play. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: The concept of hybrid turbo charged V-6 engines was not bad, however the execution has been a bit lack luster. The sound would be a hell of a lot better, power would be incredible, and fuel-use strategy would really come into play. It's a turbocharged engine, which pretty much makes the RPM limit pointless, as you get diminishing returns meaning no matter how fast you spin the turbo, it can only compress the air so much. So, why spin an engine at 15K if it makes miniscule power over spinning it at 10K, considering the amount of wear you save on the engine by not going balls to the wall. I laughed my ass off when I saw the 15K limit, I knew they would never reach it.. they didn't in the 80's either with the 1.5L 4s, those were around 11K-12K RPM. The fuel flow and fuel limit is not the issue IMO, the issue is more the limited in-season engine changes allowed, and the very limited testing allowed. The testing ban needs to be lifted if they are going to make drastic changes to the sport like they did this year. Also, FUCK RENAULT!, they asked for this shit, then hamstrung their teams to the tune of 100HP. Cocksuckers. |

The lack of testing is bullshit. I can't believe they wouldn't have open testing for at least part of the year to work out all the details of the new power units and brake by wire systems.

Fernando Alonso:
"The strongest in Formula 1 was Michael. In the years when I was staring in Formula 1, in 2001 he dominated and he did so up until 2005 and he was on another level. With him it was never easy. Then I got the opportunity to race against him on equal terms for a few years and he was always able to do something special, something more than you were expecting, or maybe more than the car was capable of. So you always had to keep an eye on him."
On strongest team mate : "It's a difficult question. They were all different, all had strong points and some not so strong, so I had a heard time with all of them in terms of performance and you had to give your maximum because they were ultra competitive. I remember Trulli, Trulli's qualifying ability was the best I've ever come across among all my team-mates. Then there was 'Fisico' Fisichella, for two years in Renault, when we won the Constructors' titles and he was always on it, in every race, in all conditions, a really complete driver. There was Massa and now Kimi and, even in the past there were kids in go-karts who were super, so it's not easy to choose one. All of them helped me, and I learned a lot from them to do with various aspects, but they all had something special." View Quote I noticed one name in particular was missing from the list of teammates. I remember an interview in 2010 when Hamilton said Alonso was the best driver he had driven against (in front of his teammate and current WDC Jenson Button who was being interviewed with him). |

The progression was awesome wasn't it? Flat out might be gone at least for this year. "Eau Rouge is one of my favourite corners and this year it will be difficult to go flat out due to less downforce," Sutil said. "With the new cars we will have more top speed and less grip, so it will be interesting to see how it will be to drive under these conditions. Ideally I'd like to see Eau Rouge flat out be on the ragged edge perhaps a touch over it. A James Hunt would do it, Niki Lauda would think and decide if it was necessary situation. |

Although the lap times may be similar, the way they are achieving it has changed. In particular the approach to one of the circuit’s most famous corners has changed. The plunge and crest through Eau Rouge and Raidillon is no longer the ‘easy flat in all conditions’ affair it had become during the V8 era. "With our low-downforce set-up, it’s, er, interesting,” said Jenson Button, who was quickest of all through the first sector which includes the famous corner. "You’ve got oversteer at more than 300kph, and I admit I let out a few screams inside my crash helmet through there on a couple of laps, especially on high fuel.” View Quote |
