Before you continue yes I am aware that the show is full of posers and morons. I don't usually watch however this particular scene caught my eye though.

I was flipping channels and I came across an episode of Doomsday Preppers where the guy was showing how he makes his own home made claymore mines. He showed how he used spray adhesive to get the ball bearings to stick to the case and then she showed how he packed C4 in behind it to give it a nice charge.

This struck me as massively illegal but clearly they were showing it on TV. I  may have a serious misunderstanding of explosives regulations and law so please educate me.

Questions:

#1 I am under the impression that to be able to purchase explosives you needed to have a legitimate commercial use for the explosive material. Is this correct?

#2 Even if he had a legitimate ATFE supplied license for commercial use how is it possible for him to use "excess" explosive for making homemade claymores?

#3 Would not the manufacture of an explosive device with the purpose of harming humans be expressly prohibited by law?

#4 How is a homemade claymore not a Destructive Device regulated by the NFA?

ETA I'm searching youtube for the clip but not finding it

If what you say is true I imagine someone will be by shortly.

WTF is wrong with those people

I swear the whole intent of that show is to make it seem like people who plan for anything look as though they are nut jobs too.

OK so he owns a special effects shop. How is he allowed to use the explosives from it to build anti-personnel weapons?
