Its the cap that is delayed, not the shocktube. both shocktube and det cord move at about 30K fps. Those "arcs" are exactly what commercial shock tube looks like when initiated. In commercial applications the cap is integral with a length of shock tube (commonly 25' in length) and the whole setup has a delay rating in milliseconds, but, as you indicated the delay is actually in the cap not the shock tube but I was referring to the whole setup (shock tube vs. other electric det or electronic det systems) not specifically the tubing itself. My point was in responding to the basic question regarding the "arcs" and whether or not the photo was slowed down. I've held a commercial blaster's license for over 15 years so I might have a little knowledge of the topic. |
