A heavy Carhartt is a very dense sumbitch, though not that dense. Of course a shot that passes through the hood hanging down and then into the back or through a loose sleeve before a torso hit might need to pass through three full layers of shell and insulation, and that is a whole lot of fabric. 4 of 9 shots going the long way through without touching skin is pretty unlikely though. View Quote It's actually 4 of 8. One hit a bystander and I doubt that bounced off the perp. |

This is silly shit. Service handgun calibers all pretty perform the same when using quality ammo. It. Was. A. Heavy. Coat.
I've been shot with a .45ACP and I carry 9mm. |

He still looked like he got kicked in the stomach by a horse. But he lived to tell the tale. And I've always thought the same about cammy' Carhartt's.

I had to read that stupid fucking article twice because I could not believe what I was reading.
First reaction is to check the guns to see if they are defective? Are you fucking serious? Check the guns but it MIGHT be the ammo? Unbelievable. Most likely they were pass through bullets lodged on the other side or NY marksmanship ricochets that were stopped after expending energy and trying to come in sideways. Stupid article is stupid. |

They must have been using old 9mm rounds from the early 1990s before technology made them as affective as the .40!!!!! Lmao

One incident. I wouldn't change the kit of an entire police force as big as NYC over it.

Wonder if they are using the Gold Dots G2. That failed quite a few expansion test before it was modified with deeper skives. This is what I thought of too but I'm pretty sure they pulled the first generation. Would be curious if this was the current generation. Lack of expansion would increase penetration, not decrease it. I would guess these bullets hit the ground or another object on their way to the target. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

It's physically larger, alright. Real world performance shows that there's approximately zero difference between the two when loaded with modern hollow points. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Some Carhart cold weather gear is thick as fuck. Thicker that denim. I would like to see some ballistics tests on the Carhart "duck" material that they use on their thick coveralls and coats. Same testing criteria they do with the FBI denim tests and ballistics gel, just with Carhart.

I wear Carhartt pants and a heavy Carhartt jacket on colder days, I had no idea I owned soft body armor.

LOL I never understood why somebody would wear clothing that looks like a deer hide during deer season. I'm assuming it was the light brown version? Lots of idiots out there who don't take the time to identify a target. Oh, and 9MM for the win. Being NYPD I'm guessing all of their rounds hit the ground or a wall first and then hit the perp. We know damn well they weren't center mass hits. |

.45 > 9mm It's physically larger, alright. Real world performance shows that there's approximately zero difference between the two when loaded with modern hollow points. Or ancient FMJ. People have been latching hard onto this "with modern hollowpoints" jazz way too literally. With FMJ they both suck. With HST they both suck a little less. I'll concede there was a brief time when the .45 had the edge; I don't think there was a 9mm load as reliable as the Speer 200gr .45 loading when it came out. Before that it was pretty much moot, and has been again for the last 25 years. |

From the article: Four of the shots that cops fired at a madman waving a knife in Midtown failed to penetrate his jacket — which was not bullet-proof — and the NYPD will now check the weapons for malfunction, law enforcement sources told The Post. “The bullets we have may be defective and that’s very disturbing,” one source said. “When we fire our weapons we want to make damn sure that our bullets hit our target – neutralizing our target.” A sergeant and an officer fired a total of nine rounds at 46-year-old Garry Conrad Wednesday, with one of the shots killing the depressed Broadway stagehand who refused to drop the blade at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue. Four of the bullets got lodged in Conrad’s Carhartt jacket, sources said, adding that he was not wearing bulletproof vest. View Quote |

my question...
if a load was so underpowered to have done this... would it have enough zip on the load to work the action of the pistol? |

What's the story behind that one? She is very very not guilty. Yeah, but she has a 9mm in her leg. Likely won't be able to put out or make a sammich for several hours. |
