The rolling banana. It just looks sad and pathetic sitting there at factory height with factory tires.

I'm not usually a huge fan of yellow vehicals, but that truck has potential.

Give it a lift, a set of big tires, possibly pipes and a few accessories and that truck could be bad @$$.

A 4" lift and some 35" Trail Grapplers are in its future, just waiting to save up the money.

2003 Ranger FX4 Level II, 5-spd, manual transfer case, 4.10s, 31-spline 8.8 w/ torsen lsd, Bilstein HD shocks, etc.
78k miles, brand new front brakes.

31 spline? Did you swap in an Explorer 8.8?

Nope, Level II comes stock w/ 31 spline.

I didn't know that! I'd love to have the 8.8 under my truck now, but I'm waiting for the weather to warm up before I start on that.

My truck has the explorer 8.8..as he said the lvl2's come with them...what kind of ranger do you have?

There's a photo of it posted on page 1 of this thread. It's a 2000 XL 4x4. It has a 7.5" with drum brakes, but when the weather warms up, I'm swapping in an Explorer 8.8.

And I know that some Rangers come with 8.8's, but what I didn't know was that some of them are 31 spline as opposed to the normal 28 spline Ranger 8.8.

Actually now that you mention it.  IIRC, the ranger 8.8s ARE 28 spline,  gosh its been so long since ive been into the stuff that i cant remember correctly.  Do you know everything you need to do to swap the 8.8 in your truck?

'03 2500HD, 6.0L.  9" lift and 37x13.5's.

'00 1500, 5.3L.  5" lift and 35x12.5's.  This one liked to eat transmissions, other than that it was a good truck.

'04 2500 HD, 6.6L. 6" lift and ~34's.  (Thanks UAW for my crooked bumper )

The only exception to that are Level 2 8.8's as LoBrau said. They are 31 spline. Anyways, the only things you need to do to an Explorer 8.8 are weld the leaf spring perches on the top of the axle housing and weld on a couple of shock mounts.

Yep, just wanted to make sure you knew...I did neither of those.  Wish i had some different shock mounts though...sure would help with the ride I'm sure.  This thing rides like poop!

Yeah, since you're lowered, there's no need to relocate the spring perches. I'm hoping that my master cylinder works with the rear disc brakes.

Its the 6.0 Powerstroke, I get about 15-16 average. The best I've got was 18 on a trip from Stillwater, OK to Amarillo, TX with a slight tail wind. I'm sure I could get better if I didn't drive like such a jackass.

Remove the door molding, paint or remove the flares, get rid of the big visor and ditch the Z71 sticker (Z71 package wasn't available on anything but half-tons until '07), and you'd have a very, very clean truck. In fact, it would remind me a bit of my '00 half-ton.

Definitely going to remove the visor and the window visors (probably can't see them in that picture). I was going to figure out if the z71 sticker was stock or not and planned on taking it off. Thanks for the info. Any pictures of your '00?

Sure, there's already one of it on a flatbed after it ate another transmission, but here's some others...
