There are an unbelievable 499 pictures. Here's some to give folks an idea of what happened. Hopefully Justin, Andy, Billy can add their comments.
Chris Costa from Magpul's training Division and Travis Haley of SDI (who goes be the screen name simplydynamic here on AR15.com) came to FOP Lodge 113 to instruct Magpuls Basic Carbine course (MBC). This was literally a crawl then walk then run carbine class where all but two of the students have never had prior instruction and more than a couple students having never fired their carbines more than a couple times. It was really something to see some people show up not really knowing how to manipulate their carbines controls at the start of day one, to seeing them shooting, moving and communicating on day two.
I was there just to watch, take pictures, put up new targets, get too much sun on the first day and really wet on the second!
Talking about zeroing rifles, the prone position, trigger manipulation etc...
Chris (L), Travis (R)
Getting ready to zero, going prone
Shooters on line
Line up the shot
Adjusting your position
Observing technique
Spotting the shot
Making adjustments
Guns are sighted in... lets get off the ground and start shooting! Chris demostrates the stance they'd like to see people using while Travis explains it/
Demonstrating the low ready
On line and finding out about offset.
FNG, theres one in every crowd!
Demonstrating the reload
Travis had a VERY cool reload method using a prototype device and a redimag. His reloads were SMOKING fast. You would have to see it to believe it.
Talking about reloads....
Now you do it!
When you pressthe trigger and theres a click but no bang, quickly rotate the rifle and see what happened.
If you've shot it to empty, get the gun up in what they called "your work area"
Dump the old mag and load a new one
Smack the bolt catch and get shooting
This was done a few times!!!
One shooter ran an AK (really well too!) for the whole class. This series of pics shows Chris demonstrating a speed reload technique for the AK.
Speed reload... check. Moving on to tactical reloads. Do you have a twinkie? How about a cupcake? LOL, if you were there, you'd be laughing too.
Justin grabs a new one mag and bings it up to the partial
And switches them, retaining the partial
Andy reaching for the new mag
Photo sequence of Chris doing a Tac Load
Pretty awesome, especially for having only shot your gun once before today!
Once they people had the fundamentals, Chris and Travis got people thinking and shooting.
Tammy's earpro worked really well.
Working malfunction drills
Low ready and scan the area
Shooting from positions other than standing
Begining to incorporate movement
Starting to put is all together... Turn to the left, get into a medium squat, and shoot till you have to reload. reload looks good down there on the end Billy!
Next drill. coming up
Incorporating yet another problem into the mix!
Turning 180. See the target, turn, ID and shoot if need be
Oh yeah, and dont forget to reload once in a while!
And get back to business
Everyone got a "break" once in a while. A break to stuff mags anyway.
Travis showing some other shooting positions
Unsupported Kneeling
Back to prone
How about Urban Prone?
Both Travis and Chris spoke about the importance of speed and efficiency. Not to be confused for speed just to be fast. Make a proper decision and execute it. This was true of every decision. If it took you a second to make a decision, it takes a second. But once you decide, get it done with urgency. In this picture, Travis shows how he has made the decision to get down, and he gets down FAST.
Urban prone from the opposite side
Having fun yet?
Did I mention it started to rain?
Talking about shooting while moving
Bust 'Em!
Shooting on the move is never "easy"
Tammy is a killa!
Mark ran that AK great!
Shelly's moving but holding steady
Brian picked himself up an Aimpoint T1!
Andy running the XCR
We've come a long way in just a day
But dont forget what you learned at first. If you have a malfunction, handle it!
And get on with it.
Shooting from barricades
Left side and right
Incorporate alternative shooting positions as well. Left side...
And right
What was learning about standing squatting, rolling out and Urban prone good for? Maybe for negotiating someting like this? Dont forget about holdover!
Stand
Squat
Roll to the right
Urban Prone
And again
One more time
It isnt really fun unless you can do it in the mud!
Can we do a drill where we shoot on the move, from cover, roll to the left, roll to the right, communicate, reload and cover your partner all at once? No problem...
How was that, fun you say?
Whose next?
Stop playing in the puddles
Contact front!
"Moving" - "MOVE!"
Was that any fun?
The Billy and Tammy show!
Billy calls out a reload, no worries, Tammy has a good lean from behind the left side of the barricade to cover him.
Just like that they're both back in it!
Mark and Brian take a second crack at it!
Justin and Chris want to get a little more wet!
Tammy and Bolly give it one more go
[Samuel L. Jackson]Check out the big reload on Billy[/Samuel L. Jackson]
OK, thats all Im posting tonight!
