This is a short explanation, but the dliff notes are that BATFE fucked up in a major way a few months ago and opened themselves up to a flood of lawsuits regarding the manufacture of post 1986 machineguns by Trusts. Further cliff notes:

1) ATF says that Trusts are not People
2) Federal law doesn't prohibit Trusts from having post '86 machinguns
3) NFA branch approved a number of Form 1's (application to Make an NFA device) that were for machine guns
4) ATF reneged and is demanding the approved forms be sent back.
5) ARFCOM lawyer NoloContender is donating as much of his time as is needed to see the coming lawsuits to closure
6) Money is needed for court filings, air travel etc.
7) The purpose of the fundraiser is to overturn 18 USC 922(o) & NFA, starting with these 3 cases involving Trusts.

FWIW, Nolo isn't some guy that just passed his bar exam-he was involved with the Republican side of the committee investigating Fast and Furious when it was big news. There is more than a passing chance that these lawsuits will bear fruit but it takes money to do things at the federal level. If you ever want to own an M-16 at any time in your life without having to pay $10-25K, this is your chance. Any amount will do, and the fundraiser is ARFCOM approved.
