Finally Got my order from Ares Defense Systems Inc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got on the original website list in 1998.
Was told I was SHRIKE customer #16

I have to say it was worth the wait. This upper is well designed and a manufacturing masterpiece.

Time to rain brass.........................

Nice. The only thing that would make it look better would be a supressor hanging off the end.

I can verify that it is indeed real! I actually got to hold the elusive Ares Shrike of his. It is pretty friggin amazing! It just feels & looks as solid as hell. Gives me hope as I'm still waiting for mine.

Very similar but they are different!

The M-249's top cover is longer than the SHRIKE's.

SHRIKE on the left
FN M-249 on the right

The M-249 receiver is longer and the bolt/op rod has a longer travel than the SHRIKE.

OMG!!! They do exist!! I thought the Shrike was a story you told to your kids when they are growing up, to make them behave...."If you are good for the next 18 years, a Shrike will appear on your doorstep one day."

Range report............The thing runs pretty damn good. The only malfunctions that I had were do to "tight links".

I ran 1500rds through it on Sunday. It was cold 30*, slippery and sunless.
I'm amazed at how cool the barrel and upper stay even after 100 burst. My DI upper never stayed anywhere close to that cool.

I mostly shot 50rd belts with a few 100rd belts.

My observation about ammo.

South African was tight in the links but was hot. (linked over 6 years ago)

Federal Lake City 86 manufacture ran great, a little dirty

S&B ran the best, high lubricity case and seemed to be smaller, easy to link.

Wolf runs good, it might be a little tight but not bad. Worked great in magazines! Smell was wicked. Very consistent.

PMP was good, clean not to hot though.

Win. White box, I have to admit I was shocked. It was probably second best runner.

The more I shot the gun the better it worked.

Gun worked very well suppressed and was certainly hearing safe.

I believe the back pressure from the can made a big difference.

Gas in the face was bad. The blow-back was like that of a DI M-16. The can I design for this bad boy is going to extend 3" behind the muzzle and is going to be 2" dia.

One thing is for sure the links need a dry lubricant as they had been sitting for years and are dry as a bone.

The gun is really smooth. Recoil is like that of HK 416.

Very accurate and sights are excellent.

I'm not going to lie.......This is one of my favorite guns to shoot now.

Cleaning the upper is very easy and there is no way in hell the bolt/bolt carrier or inside of the receiver gets anywhere as dirty as a standard DI gun. Everything wipes right off, no carbon build up.

IMHO this one of the best accessories for the M-16, hands down.

I might have to sell the other upper just so I can buy more ammo!LOL

Short Video Below!
Watch the ROF increase as the belt gets shorter.

Nice piece of machinery, it actually works.

So how do you have a suppressor in MI?  Are you a CIII dealer or something?  We civilians can't own them.......yet!  (Come on COX!)

Wait. Wut?  I thought it was finally set that we COULD have cans (and MG's) just not SBR's..... no?

Very cool you got one. I looked at getting one when I lived in TX and had 2 registered M16's. That was 4 years ago. Ammo was a lot cheaper then, too.

I'm glad you got it.

I was at the pit the day you were testing her out. WE were right next to you in the gold avalanche. Very nice weapon...My friend asked what it was and my reply was, I think it's a belt fed AR, but I have never seen one before.

Congrats
