I'm going to spend a lot of this weekend looking.

If anyone wants an extra pair of eyes I'd be glad to help.

I'm in St. Louis.

Wait for reports from southern MO to start coming in and it's generally 1-2 weeks that they start popping here. kc - CoMo - STL

I've had some Reds already this year and know of 1 guy finding 3 small white ones.

Next week they will be shooting up good.

when in doubt feed them to someone you don't like first and if they don't die your good to go, and you might have made a friend out of them because you fed them good mushrooms. If they die, not really a big loss?

I find lots of morels around my property, but they give me the shits.    They should be up in a few days with the warm temperatures and rain, so good luck to you guys out hunting them!  Look for dead elm trees, that was always the spots I found them.

My in-laws found 3 yesterday. They are at 94@U in Marthasville. We need a morel radar map of where spotted first, and pattern of growth from South to North.

I've never seen a morel in the wild. Couple years back I was out in the fall and counted 50+ different varieties. Hen of the woods, chanterelles, and coral fungi included.

Just never had any luck for morels.

The window for morels in the St Louis area is ~2-3 weeks in spring.

Gotta get out now, which I am not doing

dumb question as I don't search for them...

Can't you take the spores from those you found this year and set up an area for next year?

Sorry if this sounds stupid; I get all my 'shrooms either from the market, restaurant or placing them in evidence as they are not morels...

Don't know, but I've read that you should collect/carry them in an onion bag instead of a plastic walmart type bag as it helps spread the spores.

Me and the gf found 2 little tiny ones yesterday in north Carroll Co.  They was too small to even bother picking.  Ithink another rain and a nice warm day will have them popping up good in our area.

We've been doing this for a few years and I can't seem to tell any difference.  I still do it though.

We even have special HSLD mushroom hunting bags.

ETA- like This although a different brand.  Well worth having if you go a lot.  Plastic bags can be a pain in the arse.

Here's a few pics from the last couple days.  I found a really nice Red the other day, larger than a softball, but forgot a pic.

I have a bowl in the fridge just barely large enough for a meal tonight.

I think it's done here, you will have to go north.

Which I am considering now.
