This would be a good refresher course for basic defensive pistol skillz, or an ideal first exposure to defensive shooting for yourself, your spouse or other family members.

Instructors are top-notch and the price is certainly right!

I'd be interested in an advanced class.

Hey Shooter, question for ya!  I bought my wife a Walther P-22 to start learning on.  Would she be way out of place going through this course with that?  She's five foot, small hands and new to firearms, it was the only thing I could find that she's comfortable with.
Another question, do you use holsters in this class?
Link Posted: 2/15/2007 3:52:11 PM EDT
[#3]
This class is a bargain.  Hell, 2 days at $150 is a steal.
Link Posted: 2/15/2007 3:58:21 PM EDT
[#4]
I think she would be good to go with the .22. You dont shoot any knock downs or reactive targets so I dont see it as being a problem.  I believe the "suitable pistol" refers more to a gun that is in good functioning order. But this is a defensive class not a target shooting class so I dont know.  Just give Ken a call if your interested.

She will need a holster.  I recommend you get her a good holster to use during the class as you dont want her messing with a poor quality holster.  A mag pouch is a good thing to have also.  I have let Ken borrow gun,holster,mags, and pouch before for these classes so students are set.  I dont have a holster for the p22 but I could make one up outa kydex before this class.

Cool, we both have Fobus Kydex holsters.  I also have a leather IWB I use for carry, but would probably rather use the Kydex because it's easier to use.  I have to see what her schedule is, maybe I can get us both in this.

I took this class two years ago...it was AWESOME. I highly recommend it if you can make it.  Capt. Ken and his crew were wonderful to me and I was nervous as hell going to it.  I really got a lot out of the class.

3 Day

Carbine Operators Course

Course Description:
A three day class on how to fight with the carbine. This course is a
moderate intensity course that emphasizes fighting with the 5.56x45,
5.45x39 or 7.62x39mm carbines. It is not a shooting course - It is a
fighting course.
Attendees must be active police officers, Active Duty Military, or
possess a valid pistol license from any state. A Certificate of Good
Conduct or equivalent from your local Law Enforcement Agency will
suffice.
Live fire exercises are inherently dangerous. Safety violations will be
dealt with harshly. We cannot afford to have an unsafe shooter in a
class.
I reserve the right to refuse admission to the class for any reason.
If you have questions, contact me directly at [email protected].

Learning Objectives:

*  4 safety Rules

*  Range Rules

*  Combat Triad (Weapons manipulation skills highly stressed.

Equipment:

*                                 A serviceable 5.56x45, 5.45x39 or
7.62x39mm carbine. What you bring is not as important as the fact that
it works. Having a spare extractor/spring is not a bad idea. Bring the
lube of your choice. But bring lube.

*                                 A minimum of 3 serviceable magazines
for the carbine. More are obviously better - the less jamming of
magazines you do during the day, the more time you learn how to fight.

*                                 The carbine needs a sling. A tac sling
works better, but any sling will do.

*                                 A means to carry at least two carbine

prepared to hydrate.

*                                 Pen/pencil.

3 Day

AK Series Operators Course

This course is designed to let the user of an AK to get smart and
comfortable with this weapon. The AK is - for a variety of reasons- the
most prolific weapon in the world, but its design is less then optimal
in ergonomics.

This course is a modification of the Foreign Weapons Course that I have
taught for the military, and that was for those who had to train
indigenous personnel as well as utilization of battlefield pickups.

To that end, a stone stock AK will work. However, if you want to bring
optics, a Krebs modified AK or whatever out with you, please do. Any
caliber AK is good to go for this class- 7.62x39mm; 5.45x39mm;
5.56x45mm.

Requirements:

A serviceable AK type rifle

Six (6) serviceable magazines

A sling

A means of carrying at least two (2) magazines on your body

1000 rds of serviceable ammunition for your carbine

A cleaning kit and lube. If you are shooting corrosive ammunition, bring
appropriate cleaning gear!

A serviceable pistol, 3 magazines, holster and mag pouches, and 250
rounds of pistol ammunition.

For a list of additional equipment, see the 3 Day Carbine Operators
Course at www.eagtactical.com <http://www.eagtactical.com/>

ML, is your hubby taking any of the above-mentioned EAG courses this year? It'd be nice to see him again.

I can draw a pic of him for you.  Wait, I have real pics of him on the net from the Barbie shoot back in 9/04.  Or was it 9/05?

It was 9/04, about two weeks after the AWB Sunset.  That outing was a helluva good time; we need to brow-beat the Commish into hosting another one!

That is right.  My Bday is 9/12.  That year was one of the best ever for me.  The weather was so perfect that weekend too.  You should see Mr & Mrsgungho's kid.  I saw him last month.  He was a little guy back then, he grew some since then!

Sadly, we're out.  Turns out that is her graduation weekend.  It sucks too because I've been wanting to get her into a course like this, and I don't think we can swing the cost for the others.

Sheriff Ken offers the two-day class several times during the year, so you may have another chance soon.  Just contact him at the e-mail address above and ask to be added to his e-mail announcement list.

As far as guns go, check with Ken.  I've seen people do the class with .22 target pistols, so the Walther P-22 should be fine as long as you have a good holster (one that covers the trigger guard, is stable on the belt, and is stiff enough that you can reholster with one hand), a good belt, several magazines, and a couple of mag pouches for the belt.  You'll really want more than the minimum number of magazines, otherwise you'll be spending too much time reloading them.

I did just that, but didn't receive an email about this one.  I'm guessing that he sent out an email announcement for this class?
