Construction will begin on Island 1 in the fall of 2017 and is expected to take about five years. The project will cost $755 million.
The fishing pier at Island 1 will be renovated during the construction of the tunnel. It is expected to reopen to the public in 2022, when the new tunnel is completed. The rest stop on Island 1 is scheduled to close October 2017.

Please let it bring work to my company.
They finished the parallel span what? 15 years ago? This is going to be a very cool project to watch.
They better not mess up the fishing though.

$755M LOL, a donut says they miss that budget projection by at least 50%.

Having experience in the underground construction/tunneling world, this was my thought as well. Maybe not quite 50% but it did seem a little low to me. Looks like a neat project though.

My first thought was to multiply by 1.2.

I'm not talking about the pier, I have a boat. I'm talking about around the islands.

It shouldn't cost "us" much, hopefully. The CBBT is a public-private venture, the tolls are its revenue stream.

Interest rates are incredibly low.
Not a bad time to sell bonds with the revenue stream of tolls behind them.
