First let me welcome everyone back to ARFCOM. I know a bunch of you saw some of the BRD info at Grant's site, but I figured we needed the info here too.

I think the Gun Club deserves a huge thanks for allowing us to hold our event at their facility. I don't think you can find a nicer club to work with. Thanks!

I want to thank everyone who came out for the BRD. We had great weather, and a great turnout. The shooting was good, but getting to meet everyone was the best part. I just wish I was able to spend more time talking with all of you. I also want to thank all the volounteers who worked to make the day what it was. If it wasn't for them the day definitely wouldn't of been the same. The dealers who made it out also deserve a huge thanks. Not only did they bring their stuff for everyone to checkout, but their donations to the raffle just added to the benefits of the day.

Here is the list of the dealers who came out and supported the day. Make sure to say thanks.
Dane Manufacturing
G&R Tactical
Hallmark Small Arms
Jason in VA
Mike's Ammo
Quantico Arms

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped too!
Andrew C
Chris Fos
Fmjunkie
Kdmoore
Lonewolfman007
Ogre_4070
Reloader-Bob
Shivan
Templar

I'm sure there were others who helped out that I just didn't see while I was running around with my head cut off, so thank you too!

Everyone who took pictures please share them!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THE BRD WHAT IT WAS

BRD was a LOT of fun.

Lots of thanks to the guys that put it together, the range for making the space available, the volunteers, ROs and the dealers that came out.

It was good.  I did make one tactical error though.  I thought that the cylinder bore of my shotgun would eliminate any threat of me choking on the 3 gun, but it didn't...

Some of you guys have already seen these, but I took a few pics of the BRD events.  I had a great time with our fellow ARFCOMers, and the food was good, too.  Definitely a repeat for next time if I'm anywhere nearby.

I shot both, a fair bit actually, and they were very nice.  I was skeptical of the M1A SOCOM, but it handled well, and the perceived muzzle blast was no worse than the Scout.  I really liked the Ashley XO white blade front sight, very fast.  I hit some steel with irons past 100yds, and bowling pins at 50 with minimal difficulty.

And of course, the gratuitous bump-firing at night pic:

That poor kid in the second picture.  Every time I'd see him lay down to shoot a little, some guy one or two lanes over would start letting loose and showering him with brass.

Black Fox trying to make us jealous:

I've got a bunch of pics but I'm still trying to sort them a bit.  I remember a couple of guys going into the shoot house for pics during the dinner break.  I'm putting toigether a step-by-step of the 3-gun match but don't have any of inside the house.  If anybody has any I'd appreciate a copy so I can have a complete set.  I can black out faces or whatever as needed.

Here's links to some raw images of me on the 3-gun, they're large or I'd just post the pics:

Had a great time and was glad to help out!!!!

The club was very clean and well run, and it was a pleasure to shoot at the facillity.

It was great to get out and shoot with you guys.  I definitely need to work on my buckshot skills, slow down while shooting and speed up on reloading.

Thanks again to VA Gunnut for putting this all together and pulling it off.

I do wish the .50's had been allowed, but hey, had a blast anyway with everything else going on.

Can't wait for BRD III!

Not to be a pest VA, but I don't see my name in the 3-gun list.

Can you double check for a Ken R. on there?

Edit: If it helps, I was in the 12 o'clock group and shot about 3 or so people after Travis.

Ken,
You have to give me a run down on how to use the zoom on your camera next time so they pictures will appear closer.  I just grabbed it and started snapping pictures.  My cheapy digital doesn't have zoom so I'm a little equipment challenged

Templar,
Thanks for letting me shoot that badass Galil of yours!

Arrow Head gun club,
Thanks for allowing us to have Black Rifle Day on your facility, the gun club is awesome. Very friendly folks and very nicely prepared for BRDs events.

Had a great time myself. I will plan to make the next one. Pretty tireless volunteers, and the hospitality from your club was outstanding, Anthony. Especially the guy that ran the 3 gun. I would have needed a weeks vacation after going through what he did all day. The dealers where great as well.

It would have been nice if the 50bmg was allowed - The reason Blackfox's porche was riding low on the ground was that he had 150rnd can of 50bmg, waiting to be thrown downrange through his Barrett.

I could have shown up there without a single firearm or ammo, and would have shot all day - for free. Templar was practically begging us to shoot his rifles. Guys like him (thanks for lending me your shotgun too BTW) show up just to make sure everybody else will have a great time. I don't think i even saw Anthony sit down even for a minute, much less participate in any shooting. The RO's where great as well.

It was good to place faces to screenames. Tim, i think it was, thought i would be a 50ish, grey haired dude - not a 40ish smiley flip. Before, everytime i see the fine folks at Quantico Arms during the gunshows, they always seemed to be polite but stern marines, but it was good to sit down and break bread with them and find out that they are freakin comedians LOL.

I had mental pictures of everyone before BRD but I was WAY off base!  It was truely a pleasure to meet everyone and it's nice to put a face with a screenname now.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again (and others) at the next one!

A big thanks to Arrowhead for inviting us back.  They run a professional operation out there...I wished I lived closer

I want to thank you guys for letting me(Pete) and my buddy John Dicks get in a do the 3-gun shoot on Saturday. I felt bad about bumping some guys out of their slot so we could shoot before we left. It was great fun... when do we do it again!!! I was also surprised meeting everyone, you have a mental picture of what you think someone looks like but then it is totally differerent. Thanks to the Arrowead Gun  Club as well. They have great facilities.

Am I reading the scores right? First one is actual time, second is with misses added in? If so, dang, I'm SLOW. Might be time to rethink a high capacity handgun.

I can't relate to you guys how much of a good time Chris and I had at BRD. Cool people, cool stuff, and an amazing facility. Many thanks to VA-Gunnut, Arrowhead Gun Club and all of the volunteers. Can't wait for the next one, nor my next three gun match.

Yep, time first, then overall score.  Are you familiar with IDPA Vickers count scoring?  Each point down is worth .5 second added to your score, so if you shot a clean string, meaning you hit all your shots in either the head or the circle in the chest of the target, then your overall score is the same as your time.  If you were required to double tap the target and you got two hits in the area immediately out of the -0 ring of the chest, then that's two points down, which translates to one second added to your overall score.

If you look at my pistol score (Tim O.), you'll notice that I was slower than some of the guys right around me, but I didn't drop many points (didn't have many seconds added to my score).

Will B 15.77 18.27
Jason P 12.05 21.05
Tim O 21.00 23.00
Chris Fos 16.00 23.00

I dropped four points in the pistol string, which added two seconds to my overall score.  Chris shot faster, but dropped enough shots that his score was the same as mine.  If I were faster and kept my accuracy, I'd be high speed low-drag, but the flip is that if Chris hadn't dropped as many shots, his score would have been much higher in the pistol section.  It all evens out in the end.  I really need to start trying to speed up some, and at the same time retain the accuracy.  I guess really Chris should have come in above me since his time was lower and our scores were tied in the pistol section.

If this is confusing, don't worry, it gets easier to comprehend the more you shoot IDPA and score the targets.  One big reason it's scored like this is that it's easy for the RO to score targets quickly during a match.

Devoted Dad, you do look alot younger than most guys I know in their 40's.  No problem with the loan of the M870, I always bring a bunch of ammo out whenever I go the range or especially to a match or a meet, so that other people can have a chance to shoot my stuff.  I think I was one of the only guys to go to BRD II withough a single AR-15 in my possession.  I think they're good rifles and carbines, but I personally prefer something a little harder hitting (.30 cal).

Got M4, anytime you want to shoot the Galil, it's yours!  I was kinda hoping you'd shoot your DSA FAL carbine in the 3 gun so that Driftpunch and I wouldn't be the only two FAL'ers there.  Your wife 9x19 was great and I apreciate the offer of sunscreen!  Us fairskinned easily burnt a crispy crimson  Northern European types have got to stick together!

Again, had a blast and can't wait to meet up with you guys again and share some trigger time!

Tim is an IDPA SO so he knows his stuff. I did put his score first because I felt he deserved it. The overall times were the same, but he shot a better score. I felt the better shooting deserved preference. I guess I'm a little prejudiced about this. The first IDPA Classifier I shot in I missed expert by .21 seconds if I remember correctly. I was down 13 points for the whole 90 shot string. The guy who shot before me made expert but was down almost 60 points if I remember correctly. I found a 60 point drop meeting an expert classification kind of hard to understand, so I look to the better scores if possible.

Many thanks to the volunteers, Anthony in particular for organizing the event, and to the Arrowhead Gun Club for hosting BRD.  It was my first one, and I really enjoyed it.   It was great to meet fellow ARFCOMers.  The club was great.  The facilities are great and the club members are very nice.   I cannot say enough great things about it.  I wish I lived closer.

I learned that a zero at 25 yds. indoors isn't necessarily a zero at 100, 150 and 200 yds.   I will allow enough time to zero in the future.  At 100 yds., I was outside the black on all but one shot at 2 o'clock.  At 150 yds., I was off the paper onto the backboard,  at 2 o'clock, and off completely at 200 yds.  Oh well, lessons learned.  I will try the 3-gun match next time, even though I will be slow.  I haven't used a shotgun much, so I want to shoot a little more before I try it.
