That was actuall around Fall Time. They started having the security guard at the gate and signing in, making you pay for guests (which is not what we agreed to when we joined) and closing at dark.
Its changed a lot from when I joined. The main reason I joined was I could come and go as I pleased and shoot whenever I had time. I also liked that I could bring a few of my friends with me. Oh well.... |

march 2010 booklet...
new range hours: no shooting prior to 6:00am an after 10:00pm typed exactly like it reads / does not mention after dark shooting. still has the combination change for march so they must put a key lock on the gate when they get ready to close down. eta: on page 6 under heading adminstrative rules/policies: notify security when using range during hours of darkness... so I guess you have to coordinate so they know and to set up the guard staying on. how much lead time do they need? a few hours? a week? they should state their hours as 6am to dark, up to 10pm if you coordinate beforehand etc. makes it look like they are nickle and diming away your membership rights month by month. Well if you really hate it there that much, just shoot at the county range - after all that is exactly what the county wants...
Seriously though, the county commission IS the PROBLEM. The continued attacks on the range from the board of Socialists has caused the club to try for appeasement. I don't like this either, but the "all or nothing" approach may well lead to "nothing" with the merry band of socialists. I can see why they have chosen the low key route. For every member like you that wants to shoot with a flashlight there are 75 that do not. Most of them are guys with enough time to go to every meeting too. Not very many of them are willing to give up their range for your flashlight - on principles. Your best answer is to go to more meetings, and make your voice heard. It IS a private club run by members. If you want to blame somebody, blame everybody that you know - who voted for that corrupt bastards on the county commission. If you know somebody that voted for Rory the Socialist, or Droolin' Chani - Go vent your anger on them. Lem |

The point was of a private club was for us to be able to do what we want with in our legal rights of course. You have the 75 peeps that would rather get ass raped than keep a good thing like it is till and fight for the good thing until the end.... if that time is near. I don't see how losing 25 percent or more of your members will help the club stay open. You can get prepared to pay more in dues, then have you wife pay to shoot, and then have a parking fee and then they will make you buy ammo for them "all in the name of trying to keep the club open" and this will keep going and going and it will always be for the same reason. For gods sake I lived in buffalo new york and private clubs were private clubs and I never had to deal with this crap. They also had a real club house, a real trap house, some really nice ranges ( not quite as nice as here) and they had a limit of 100 member that can belong to the club and vote. I had to wait to get in the club and be a probe for 3 months before it was official and I had to go to the meetings.You could bring who ever you wanted when ever you wanted ( ohh and you did not have to baby sit them at all times of the day because johnny rent a cop was watching you) you did not have to wear a ID badge and you didn't have any security.....sound familiar? And NY sucks to be a gun enthusiast. Sorry I don't bend over for no man. I would rather keep it the way it is and fight till the end than take it in the ass for 5 more years to hope to get another 5 more years of it in the ass.  I am letting my membership go because I am not in the mood to fight with the 75 and the county. It may be a private club run by members, but when the majority of the members are manipulated from fear than how is it different than the club being run by the county.

I got a PM from another member about these shenanigans. It was too good not to share......
I've also noticed they have a few ro's that are dickbags. About 5-6 years ago noone I knew would waste money on a membership becuase of stupid shit they kept changing and ro's that were assholes. They got a couple guys like bob (who is cool) and things started to get better... But they are gettng too fucking big and letting in too many dipshits again. Simple solution, write new contracts where if you fuck up like going and "partying" on the range your ass and anyone else participating asses are fuckin banned. Step 2 involves taking your ass out of that trailer and checking on shit on the range every once in a while. I have never had my card checked and never seen it.. So if they have a pandemic of people sneaking in then the ro's should step the fuck up, instead if punishing responsible CUSTOMERS. Poetry! |

I have never seen it work to save a range. But the simple fact remains that a large component of the membership is retired. Shooting is one of the few things they do. That group will not "Stand in Support" of anything they don't enjoy themselves. I can hear some of the old farts - "why the hell would you want to shoot with a flashlight? Might as well go home if it is dark, dinner is probably ready" Show up at meetings. Even more productive is to show up at a clean-up day. The informal communication on a 1:1 basis helps establish your credibility. TELL someone if an RSO is being a douchebag. Get out of your truck & talk to the guy with the sign in sheet for a minute. TELL him you WILL be working on your night shooting skills later in the evening. Communication is important. Bitching about the lack of it on a forum that most DSRPC members will never see does not do much. I will be out there shooting in the dark within the next 45 days or so. It is time to check zero on the night vision. I will make damn sure to shoot right up to 9:45 pm too. Lem |

No one will be shooting in the dark unless your metro......END OF STORY>>>>>
Thats what I was told yesterday. I left a message for someone at the main number asking if I could schedule a night shoot for 1 hour. Myself(member) and 4 other(non members =$20.00 profit) wanted to shoot the house at night. I got a call back from a lady saying they close at DUSK and that I need to call the securtiy co. to ask about nite shooting.. So, I call this security company and ask the guy. He says "are you with METRO?" I say NO, he says sorry cant shoot past dusk.. WTF !! He goes on about how the HOUSE is also CLOSED for a MONTH... I ask Why? I just was there last weekend. He says, Well, someone put up targets on the walls and shot holes in everything.. I saw 1 target on the wall but the place wasn't shot to shit.. Plus, a Couple a holes in the back door(been there for a month) but not shot to shit.. He went on and on about who is going to pay for his overtime.. bla bla bla.. So, this place is going down hill fast.. I bring people out there a couple times a month and also try to get them to join but, when the people whom I PAY (from membership dues) are assholes to me and my guests it put a sour taste in there mouth.. I've had 7 guys including my own brother saying they will never join because they dont want to get treated like shit.. ~~~~~~ One day when I was on the LONG 550 yrd range a guy RO comes up and says.. NO automatic weapons... WTF i say to him.. he says you cant shoot full auto here.. I look at him like he's a dumb ass and say, we don't have full auto weapons.. He said you guys cant fire that fast and control your shots.. BTW, All of us are x military and shooting ar-15's.. I say dude what are you talking about. we are in total control of our weapons and rate of fire.. Thanks for the heads up SIR !!... we went back to our benches.... He, I think was jealous because we are good shots and have nice toys.. lol |

Seems to be par for the course when dealing with dsrpc. They make a change, you don't hear about it until you drive there and get told the new rule by management, then thay bury the change within their yellow book. Standard practice that's been happening the last several months:
- guest fee - guest fee change for close relatives - guest fee change close relatives defined - guard at the gate - no night shooting Notice they don't say didn't you read the new rule in the yellow book? There's usually a lag time of a month between new rule and new rule placed on page 8. |

Yep... I told the security dude the rule book says 10pm.. he says there is a sign at the gate saying closed at dusk.. well, the book and the sign don't match !!! Is it really that hard to communicate?..
Also, he tells me that a little while ago he and a RO went up to a guy shooting and said he has to STOP shooting as its dusk and all shooting must stop. Well, the guy didn't stop and they got a pissed. He rambled on about how he said WHO was going to pay for his overtime and when a RO and a security guard say stop shooting and go that the LAW... Dude needs to take a chill pill.... I'm getting discouraged More and More.. This disabled VET is ready to go to BC and shoot.. In tow will be a lot of FRIENDs at $5 a head loss. |

So uhhh.. I was there the other night with Eagle reaper and had an interesting experience today... Heres a discussion I had at the front gate:
ro "you know what time we close today?" me "dusk?" ro "5:45" me "ok" RO (cant remember his name): "You know, you might be getting a bill in the mail for tuesday" me "what?" ro "Well, we had to stay another 30 minutes overtime to make sure we didn't lock you guys in here, so you might be getting a bill in the mail" me "... You're joking.... Right?" ro "No. We had to stay to make sure we didn't lock you in since it's a key lock now... So you might be getting a bill for the overtime for three guys that had to stay late to get you off the range" me "... thats interesting."

We have been threatened multiple times with being locked in after dusk. Last month, my husband and his guest were locked in. Took them a half hour to come back and unlock the gate.
Wow, now they've taken it another step further by threatening to charge for overtime. Nice.

Here's my thoughts on what's going on. The club wants to have security there any time people are shooting so they can demonstrate that its a safe facility when Hughes tries to get them shut down. The official closing time is 10pm, but the security guard wants to leave at dusk. They probably have an arrangement that if there's nobody there at dusk then security can go ahead and close up. But what really happens is the security guard lies to you and claims you must leave at dusk. He just doesn't want to stick around for you. This happened to me so I called the club number and they told me he was wrong to tell me that I had to leave and that they would talk to him.
That's the way I see it. Let's all go to the meeting together, when is it? |

It is a great facility even with some of the new rules, but locking members in really WTF. I added the next meeting to my calendar and plan on showing if there is going to be an ARFCOM rally. |

I don't think the RSO's are thinking things through. They're enforcing rules that aren't officially voted on. You cannot illegally detain someone like that. We missed the last two meetings, but we'll be there in April. This crap needs to get sorted out. |

It's called false imprisonment, and is made valid not by physically barring passage - but by physically LOCKING package. They are opening the club up to a law suite when the wrong member is locked in.
Edit: See persons and property. Could also be construed as illegal seizure (vehicle) or illegal impound. All it will take is the security company locking the gate, and failing to respond and unlock the gate over night. As it is their job, it would be removed from the possibility of "accident." An individual alleging false imprisonment may sue for damages for the interference with her or his right to move freely. An individual who has suffered no actual damages as a result of an illegal confinement may be awarded nominal damages in recognition of the invasion of rights caused by the defendant's wrongful conduct.
In certain cases, it has been known for the offender committing the tort (security guard in this instance) to also be charged with kidnapping. It will all depend on how the judge/jury approaches the situation. Given that it's a security guard who deals with situations like this professionally - the maximum allowable sentencing may be carried out since they know better in accordance with their line of work. Kidnapping is a bit of a stretch in this situation, but I wouldn't put it past an eager lawyer. Note - punitive damages have been awarded in cases like this, just google false imprisonment cases. The Hughes Corp. has been dealing with these kinds of situations for a very long time. In my opinion the clubs best chance at staying around - is to provide the same rules and regs that the members have come to know and love. Rather than bending over backwards to appease Hughes (which is a sham, they're trying to break down the club and remove support) they need to strengthen membership and support. Divide and Conquer |

Wow, what the hell is going on? I just joined a couple months ago because the majority of my shooting buddies shoot there. There is lots of bullshit happening now though. They won't have to worry about renewing their license in a few years because there won't be enough memebrs to pay the bills.
As to the asshole rso's, I've been on the receiving end of that a couple times too, but wrote it off to them having a bad day. Rest assured that I'll no longer take shit off those guys when I've done nothing wrong. Mike, if you get a bill in the mail, please let me know. I'd love to go down there with you and reaper driver and cause some shit. That's absurd. ETA: If you're a member who thinks the new rules and the behavior of some of the staff is bullshit, please send an email to DS. |

LVMike, you will not be paying any charges at DS. As per Bob R at the gate this AM.
Supposedly the Dawn to dusk will be in the next newsletter. The combination lock will never be back on the gate. The shoot house will be closed except for matches. Look for more changes in the future. Any grievences or suggestions must be submitted in writing to the Executive Board at a monthly meeting. As stated above, members please make yourselves heard. |
