Mr. Donovan, thank you for writing.   My top priority as AG will be to protect public safety, citizens' rights and taxpayers' pocketbooks. I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.  I believe reciprocity for conceal/carry permits should be expanded beyond the existing 5 states by our Legislature. I will not pursue a state Assault Weapons Ban; the job of the Attorney General is  to enforce the law as it exists, which I will do.
Thanks again for writing, and please keep in touch.

Best wishes,
  Rob McKenna

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am interested in finding out how Mr McKenna feels about the Assault Weapons Ban and whether or not he intends to pursue a state ban.

Thank you for your cooperation,

You didn't miss anything.  What KA3B is saying (I think) is the liklihood of Gregoire becoming Governor, working with a democratically controlled legislature to create a state AWB.

They may have a tough time doing that.

Washington State Constitution DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
ARTICLE I
SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this Section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

It could be argued that banning certain firearms, or features could impair a citizens ability to defend him/herself.  Not only that, the federal ban is going to fail and if that isn't proof enough....
Then again, feinswine pulled it off in kali.
