It was a great day out there but the wind at 500 yds was killer. It was nice meeting some of the AR15.com members today. And yes republicanman was getting solid center mass hits over and over again with his SKS with iron sights. But the funniest thing i ever saw was an 81 year old guy with a .95 cal bolt rifle (no kidding .95 cal) I thought he was going to fly off the bench when he shot it. I hope to be out there next Saturday if the weather is nice.

I got a good look at the thing when everybody else had left.  It's a McMillan Bros action and stock, with a Krieger barrel.  The scope is a Leupold 4x pistol scope.  According to the owner Leupold is the only brand that holds up on his monster guns).

He said it's one of only three made -- the cartridge doesn't even have a name.  The brass is custom made, bullets are lathe-turned from solid brass.  I think he quoted $20/shot (the bullets are $6/ea).

Even with the brake, the thing wasn't too loud, though I thought he was coming off the bench every time he pulled the trigger.

You can see his "sidearm" in that last picture -- a Remington XP-100 bolt-action in 458 Win Mag.  Watching him shoot that was even more impressive.

Truly, here is a man who "can beat his'n with your'n, and your'n with his'n."

Heh - Now that's what you call big bore!   I know I've seen that rifle around before as well, but I can't exactly recall where...  I guess it's classified as a DD?

Water and Wings are looking for a range master for saturday and sunday.

I guess if you can shoot 95 caliber there 50 caliber is okay?

All I can say is wow! A .95 caliber rifle...
Talk about recoil! "Use enough gun" just took
on a whole new meaning.
I bet that guy was hurting all over the next day. 20 rounds of 300 WM just about beats me to death...I'd be flinching like a little girl after two rounds with that thing.

He said it's not classified as a destructive device -- the manufacturer got an exemption from ATF.

There was an inscription on the side, too.  I forget what it was exactly, something like "BIG FAT MAC".

What PA range was this?
That old timer looks real familiar. Did he also by chance have a 6mm Bolt Action with him?

Yeah....if he hadn't been running so good I probably wouldn't have cared, but he was running in the top 5 most of the day....
Oh well, there's always Vegas.

Pretty sure a Nightforce would be able to take it - they're usually more durable than Leupolds, at least if you ask the buys over at McMillan's.

McMillan had a rifle called the "Fat Mac", but this isn't the same as the one I'm thinking of.  It was a 20mm shortened and necked down to .50 cal.

Yup, they still hard some parts laying around for the Fat Mac back when I worked there. I guess someone (the owner?) did a small "conversion."

Does the .95 come in a pistol?

If it does I hope it includes a coupon for lifetime visits to the bone doc because you're doggone sure gonna have arthritis from shooting it, hell I have phantom pain in my shoulder from just seeing that .95 yesterday.....and I didn't even stick around to watch it fired.

There was a 20mm/.50 round like this called the 50Omni a while back.  I was a a range outside of Tulsa when they had one there shooting at the 800 yard range.  It was painful to be around.  The flame that shot of of the rifle was huge.  I do not think the barrel was going to last more than 1000 rounds...however when the group came back it was benchrest tight.
