I was offered a job as an Air Traffic Controller in Miami, so me and the wife packed up and moved down here July 25th. I'll admit, it hasn't been an easy transition. It's like a completely different country down here.

I figured duck hunting and fishing can be my getaways, since it seems deer and turkey hunting are almost nonexistent down here. We're living in Pembroke Pines and really enjoy the area. Since I no longer have a boat, fishing has been piers and jettys.

As duck season approaches, I realize that it's going to be very different down here. I've attempted to research as much as possible, but first hand knowledge is best knowledge.

What are the main species down here? Not really sure of where I will be hunting, it will be public since it seems there aren't any waterfowl leases down here. How is the pressure on public land? What would be the best boat setup for duck hunting and inshore fishing around the area?

If anyone wants to steer me to the right areas to hunt, feel free to PM me!

Thanks

I hunted the STA's (waterfowl)  along US27 a few years ago with good luck, access works on a draw system through FWC, permits go FAST I remember FWC's website crashing within the first minute of permiting opening.

STA's are a blast, but what a shitshow.  You can check out http://unitedwaterfowlersfl.org/ for FL specific duck hunting help.  Lot of really good guys in that area that are more than willing to help

Also, early teal sucks IMO, its to damn hot

get a boat, even if its a small one!
