What kind of groups was he getting with that set up?  I'm able to get 1.5 moa with mine set up very similiarly (need better glass, just using a 1-4 Primary Arms currently) using Southwest Ammunition's 175 grain load.  The Jard trigger set at 4# made a huge difference.

Any way you can tell us about the set up?

My latest set up:

Testing the completed package after the Jard was installed

I really want some better glass on this thing if I'm going to keep it and continue to use it as a DMRish rifle.

Yeah, Its just a DSA Sass.. I get right at 1moa with 175gr hand loads... gas on and right at 3/4 with gas of single shot style.. This is a sick gun.. I did a massive amount of trading to get it and can not get enough of it.. It will get a mark6 with the tremor 2 by the end of summer.. hopefully..lol

Nice.  I haven't shot for group with the gas off.  I'll try that.  Though, truth be told, with the way the market is right now, I'm seriously thinking about selling it.  Every time I pick it up, though, I remember why i still have it.  All I really have left to do is upgrade the glass.  I was thinking about a GRSC 1-6, but I don't have the cash for it.

Top is a newer Century with the US made barrel, runs great and is decently accurate.
Bottom is a original para barrel, imbel receiver, unsure on the brand of rail system and I'm still waiting on my suppressor mount to come in.

Israeli clone I had about 4-5 years back.  Lucked into a partial kit, and found the remaining parts real cheap.  Unfortunately had to sell her when the wife lost her job during the recession \, but you know family always comes first.

And the current Fal.  Its a L1A1, that century turned into a thumbhole sporter.  Its a real nice BSA parts set with an Imbel non gear logo receiver.   I replaced the stock, fixed the PG stub, and had the barrel re-threaded.  Found some Aussie wood and plopped it on it since it will never be correct with that receiver anyways.   I still need to refinish it someday

I love this rifle, but it costs way to much per bang.
I am going to sell it at the crossroads fun show next weekend.
Thought I would post a pic of it before it goes away.

These are my three FALs:  the scoped FAL was done by DSA, has DSA's stainless steel upper and lower receivers, a NOS Argentine barrel, DSA hand guards and scope mount, a Guncoat finish and DSA's "Speed Trigger."  The "Congo" para is also from DSA.  The third is my best attempt at an Isreali FAL.  It was done by Gunplumber and has an almost new Steyr barrel and Gunplumber's proprietary finish.  My intent with the scoped FAL was to build the most accurate FAL I could WITHOUT resorting to the following:  match ammo (I currently use Port Ball); free floating barrel (I wanted the original configuration); any other exotic parts.  The purpose for the Izzy was much more straightforward:  to build the coolest looking and most accurate battle rifle I could.  Again, I'm using Port Ball.  Both guns might benefit from using match grade ammo, but that's not their purpose.

I recently took them all to the range to sight them in.  When it was all said and done the Para and the Israeli printed consistently in the 2-3 MOA range.  The scoped FAL was a different story.  It consistently printed 1.5-2MOA all day.  Below is my final group shot at 300 yards from a bench over sandbags.  The scope is a new Leupold 3-9X40 Patrol with an illuminated Mil reticle.

The areas I concentrated on were: the barrel (I used the very best I could find without resorting to US made match grade barrels); tightening up the front hinge pin (I fit the largest I could WITHOUT resorting to any reaming and custom parts); I fit the rear locking lug so the lockup was a tight as possible; I paid extra attention to headspace and the locking shoulder; and on the scoped rifle at least I have the best trigger I could get.  The Izzy has a standard trigger that has been smoothed somewhat but is not nearly as good as the other gun's trigger.  Both guns have Israeli type sights:  rather crude and imprecise, but entirely useable.  Side by side with iron sights the scoped gun still beats the Izzy, shooting 2.0-2.5MOA groups during the sight in process.

Based on the target shown (a good example of the accuracy I was getting all day), the scoped gun shoots between 1.5 and 2.0MOA.  The next test will be at 400-600 yards to see if this holds up at distance.

Bottom line:  Those saying the average FAL (in original configuration) shoots about 3-4MOA may have some justification.  However, those that said I was wasting my time trying to make one do better were all wet.  The modifications I chose were not difficult or expensive.  They just required some care in selecting the right parts and the right gunsmith.  The results speak for themselves.

Family Portrait from top to bottom - first build Rhodesian, second build South African R1, STG-58, Belgium 50.61 unfired with wood bipod cut handguards, Springfield Armory SAR 4800 unfired with Ironwood Walnut stock, one of 50 Belgium Rogak 50.00 imports from early 70's unfired.   The sad part is, I didn't own any a year ago.   I guess you could say I was a late bloomer.

I own an HK91 and the differences are like night and day to me.  The FALs are like holding the waist of your high school sweetheart while the 91 is like 4 kids and 60 lbs later.
