I have an SEI built M1A sporting the same barrel and I have also been thinking about selling (but always end up backing out, lol).  I have documentation of the preceding and that Ron personally fitted the barrel, as he didn't like how it was shooting when it was originally built.

Im not trying to be a smartass.. Honestly.. What makes this barrel rare or special ?   I have a Smith built Norinco . It was HT to spec and then built on a pristine TRW kit. I could never sell her... WarDawg

Only 6 of these particular barrels ever made it out the door.
Lee Emerson has documented this Smith Enterprise barrel in his books.
Chambered for M118 LR, 4 grooves, and a 1:10 rate of twist.

Did they suck or something?

Why only 6?

The auction has ended with NO bids. Apparently, this type of rifle with a CHROME lined barrel is not a favorite with most people with money in their pockets. The fact that only six made it out the door was because their were only five or less buyers.
Besides, the advertised "exceptional BATTLEFIELD accuracy" is BS speak for "shabby".

Yes, if it were a great barrel more would have been made.

Plus, the guy is trying to sell it, not auction it. GB is rife with idiot sellers like this who start their auction at an already inflated price leaving no room to generate buzz or interest with an attractive price.  This is precisely how a reserve is supposed to be used....

No, they didn't suck

These were MOA barrels, and I was told years ago that they were intended
for NSWC CRANE, or SEI's own version of the military use MK14 MOD 1.
Crane made a deal for 18" barrel blanks that Springfield was using in their
civilian Scout M1A, so SEI halted production of their chrome lined barrel.

I don't think it was ever intended for the civilian side of the market.

OK, cool. Thanks for the info. Can you tell me more, like who supplied the 18" barrel blanks Springfield was/is using?

Back then (2005) I believe it was Wilson... I have no idea who supplies them today.

Also, Lee Emerson (Different) has the details in his publications, check with him.

Sorry, I just don't get the modern interpretations of the venerable M14 (n.e., M1A)

They weren't blanks.  Real Mk14 barrels are marked Springfield Armory, Geneseo IL.  Ask me how I know.
