Help me decide on a barrel length.
Going to sbr one of my lowers and build a 300 blk. It will not be suppressed right away but maybe down the line. Will likely hunt hogs and deer with it and of course use it as a range toy/home defense. I like the looks of a 8.5 but am unsure or the advantages/disadvantages of either. Would the 10.5 have better bullet stability? Also, post pictures of yours too help me decide |

Just do the 8.5 since you are going to SBR it. I have an 8.2 Noveske and couldn't be happier with it. As far as bullet stability, look at the rate of twist and bullet weights rather than barrel length.

Get a 9 inch AAC upper? Best of both worlds? I may pull my 8.5, 9 and 10.5 inch 300 blk out the safe to take a pic for you....

I have an extra 7.62 51t sitting around, maybe i'll mount it just for a pic. IF you look closely, the shoulder of the barrel before the threading is right before the 2nd hole in the rail. View Quote What FDE stock is that in the middle? Is that the new Magpul CRT with the battery compartment or a Vltor? |

8.5" i like mine but I noticed quite a bit of unburnt powder. Had I to do again I'd go 9-9.5" hell maybe even 10". http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t677/balloo933/DSC01801_zpshrw7hc3m.jpg http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t677/balloo933/71e8ec07-130b-4d03-b63a-ec08dcb5d7ec_zpskwiqg5ky.jpg View Quote Had I mine to do again I would go 9" over the 10.3" BA I have now. More so with Gemtech subs suppressed. |

I'm planning on using this one (7.5") on my 300 BLK build:
I'm considering this one (6.25") as well, since it would always be run suppressed: SLR makes handguards that will work with either one. 300 BLK is made to run with short barrels. Why anyone would go longer than 8" is beyond me. |

View Quote Because, as stated above, some may want longer handguards because they allow them to extend out their supporting arm/hand further, it gives more real estate/options for mounting accessories, and also an extended sight radius, an increase in MV, which may give an additional ~50yds (or more) of expansion range with some bullets, etc. Hell, they may just prefer it that way.... because. Different strokes and all that... |

I went from 10.5 to 8.5, and right back to 10.5.
I have moderate hearing damage already. Even with my 762SdN6 I noticed a crack to a number of rounds- Gemtech more than others. My 10.5 was nice and quiet, just like I like it. |
