Has SIG finalized the design? Has the bolt peeing issue been fixed?
Will SIG abandon the 556 series for the AR pistol carbines? Thanks

No, Sig will not abandon the 556 series in favor of the 516 series AR piston rifles (which should start shipping by the end of summer) and there are some new mods in the works for the 556 series.

Can't divulge all the secrets, but most of the changes for the 556 series are related to the ergonomics and handling of the rifle.  Definitely some good stuff...stay tuned.

I'm on Sig Sauer's factory shooting team and I'm doing some work with Sig on modifications to the 556 series and I'm helping with the testing of the 516 series.

The other week I watched some Sig engineers put 5,000 rds. through a 516 in one day.  Even got to shoot some myself.  Other peoples guns and ammo= fun!

Can you say if a "target trigger" or something along those lines will ever be released?

Can our current rifles be upgraded to these my designs?

Regarding the "target trigger", there is a single stage, drop in trigger pack being developed.  It's very similar to the drop in design's the AR's use.  It's a very nice, crisp, single stage trigger that should also address the trigger overtravel issue.  Waiting on this one myself!

Some of the mods may be "upgradeable", but not all of them.  I won't know for sure until a final decision is made as to which mods will be green-lighted.

No, I was up at the Sig Sauer academy in Epping, NH to instruct a rifle course for USSA.  While there I got to spend some time with the engineers doing different things, including discussions about some mods to the 556 series.

Are you talking a 556 trigger development here, or 516?

I was under the impression they were talking about the 556 series.

How much will it raise the cost? I am seriously looking at a 556 classic right now, and might wait if the mods are that good

I'm more interested in a time line than cost ;o)

From what I understand, the upgrades will be mostly ergonomic and as such really shouldn't increase the price, but don't quote me on the that.

As far as a timeline goes....I would look longer than shorter.  Everyone was working to get the 516 ready, now they're working on the 716 series.  The 556 changes will come but they are lower on the priority scale at this moment.

It's to soon I'm guessing, but would like to ask if any more info has come to light on possible update time frames? Or any additional details on what suggested changes may be accepted,

Look at my post below.  My newer 556 clasic is slightly different then my born on march 2010 one.  Also the accessories are slightly different also.  I like the changes.
