Rarely does a day go by that I don't pop in my reloading room and do something.  A lot of the time is due to some inspiration that I picked up on here, whether it was a subject topic or something that someone may have mentioned in their reply.

Today's reloading interest involved something Angus6 mentioned in a thread a few days ago, and that's using Hornady locking rings to switch dies back and forth on his 1050.  I never used Hornady's locking rings, and in fact pretty much stayed away from locking die rings due to most of them boogering up the die threads somewhere along the line.  An exception might be Dryflash's die ring mod with the lead shot.  I picked up some Hornady lock rings.  In short, I wish I would have done it a long time ago!  Those things are great!

So I spent my morning getting my .223 case prep dies out of my 650's tool head and setting up the case preparation and reloading die set up with the lock rings for the 1050.  The lock rings are a lot cheaper than an additional tool head and pretty quick to change out.  Maybe not quite as fast as a $200 tool head, but fast enough for the savings!

Too bad I didn't have the rings last week when I prepped close to 5 gallons of 223 for a good friend!  It would have been more efficient on the 1050, instead of once through the 650 for sizing / decapping and trimming and once through the 1050 for swaging.

By the way, I think Angus6 is a bad influence.  He has been responsible for me spending a good chunk of change with his common sense ideas!
So, what did you do today in the world of reloading?

Loaded up some 55gr FMJs over 25.0 of Tac.  Test fired my 55FMJs over 24.5 and 24.6 of Tac respectively, both shot great at 50 yards.

He has a bunch more stuff that I will be buying. He asked me when I was picking it up if I wanted more bullets and primers. Who doesn't?

Currently running 9mm brass through the wet tumbler from my last few outings to to the range.

Sorted approximately 1000 .45 acp cases I ordered online. Found 97 small pistol primer cases in the mix.

A coated 185gr semi wadcutter from Bayou Bullets, over 4.5 grains of Bullseye.  I don't recall the OAL but the adjustment that I used for 230gr put the shoulder just out of the case so I went with that and it seemed to work okay.   Also loaded some over Red Dot to try.

I had one empty not completely eject on the first magazine I tested so I bumped up a tenth of a grain of powder and the rest seemed to feed just fine through my Glock 21.   Very mild recoil compared to my old 230gr load.

Marking your brass for recovery or does the color mean something?  I do different colors for different times fired for my rifle brass.

In the spirit of this thread on tumbling my third batch of brass and working on resizing 308 brass.  Someday I should buy a gun that shoots .308.

I cleaned my press.

I loaded up 800 rounds in between all the "honey do" stuff today.

I put 1500 rounds that were loaded last week and today into ammo cans.

Tomorrow I will load another batch. I am hoping to be able to load 800 or so. This of course if the wife unit agrees.

I also made a deal with a local guy to buy 47lbs of 55gr .224 bullets, 3000 CCI#41 primers and 1000 each small and large pistol primers. He might have some other misc stuff when he cleans out his apartment.

Finished tearing down 500 9mm hp. Got 499 cases, about 450 have good primers, 498 bullets. I will have to sort the bullets as they are definitely 2 different weights.

Not bad for $35 and a couple of hours of labor. Bullets appear to be hydrashoks.

Finally got to go out and shake down some New subsonic 300 Blackout loads that I had loaded up but never really got to play with other then the dozen used in the chronograph work..  The load consisted of using the Berry's plated 220 grn FMJ... The coolest thing I noticed was that the sun was hitting just right and I was getting some glint off the bullet and I could see the bullet going down range (lit up like a dim tracer), was very cool..

I drove up to Buda to buy some VV N133 powder.  Yes, they got me to help pay their mortgage, but with a coupon and my military discount (5%...yay) it wasn't too bad.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to mess with this stuff some time soon; work's been crazy busy and while overtime is nice, you gotta be awake to spend the extra money.

Added:
This evening I went through my stash of LC 7.62 brass.  I sorted out the non-LC stuff (just a few from scrounging), then checked out the rest.  I had about 30 scrounged "not once fired" cases - their primer crimps had already been removed - and then organized the rest (about 200) for crimp removal.  These will be for load development.  This is outside of the 1200 I haven't done anything to but deprime and wet tumble yet.

Been doing some load experimentation with 147gn 9mm Blue Bullets in my CZ-75 SP-01, Beretta 92A1, and my Sig 228.  Trying to find a nice shooting Power Pistol load that will run all 3 and not be too punishing.  Started off at 4.2 grains and finished off at 4.9 grains today.  Alliants website sucks for info.

All loads worked fine but got alot of smoke staining on the cases with the 4.2 load.  Probably going to settle on the 4.6 gn load.  No staining and really good accuracy at 25 yds.

Waiting on next payday to order a chrony so I can see what speeds I am looking at before I load up the rest of the 1K I have.

Why use a sonic cleaner for that. Just use corn cob in a tumbler for 10 minutes. Easier.

Small batches and I don't like picking out cob from the primer pockets.  I could use a universal decapping die but I reload 300 BLK on the single stage and don't want to add another step.

If you use the correct size corn cob it flows through the flashole. The pet store corn cob will stick.

Probably this 14/20 corn cob media from Zoro Tools.. They're less expensive than Granger for exactly the same Econoline-brand media.  Zoro wants about $35 for 40 pounds of the stuff, while Granger wants $38 and their shipping is more too.

Hint: buy two 5-gallon pails when you buy 40 pounds of corn cob media.  It won't quite all fit in those pails, but you can keep it dry that way.

Did a single batch of 9MM cases with Armor All® Ultra Shine Wash & Wax in the FA tumbler.

First time deviating from Dawn® Ultra Dishwashing liquid soap.

I'm going to see if the wax film left behind makes any difference in retarding or eliminating tarnish and if it will ease resizing in any significant way.

I'm happy with the wash results and will likely stick with it anyways since Armor All® Ultra Shine Wash & Wax is cheaper than the Dawn® Ultra Dishwashing  liquid soap.

Ouch! You need to try out a Super 1050. You'll be ruined.

I have spent some time in the garage each day this week, just tore a lot of stuff out. Packing up a ton of my car parts stash, and tools that I'll not be using for awhile, engine hoists, trans jacks, differential fixtures, all going to the storage unit. Sold the drag racing stuff, unloaded the last LS motor and turbo set up. I need to get organized and set up for reloading, and actually shooting. I am so tired of digging through boxes looking for what I need, sometimes I think I spend more time trying to put stuff away just so I can reload, by the time I get to reloading, I'm out of time.

And to think it all started just because I wanted to get to the drill press, and table saw to make a jig for my beam scale.

One of my friends is trying to escape Seattle and get up here tomorrow, I just might make it to the range and test out the cast BO loads I have been trying to shoot for 2 weeks.
