Help me out guys - what is a good scope that will work on my LAR Grizzly without breaking the bank.

Give me a few suggestions.

I plan on shooting 200 - 300 yards often.  Not many places around here I can go out much further than that.

Thanks in advance.

Cool.

What about this one - almost the same thing... different reticule - 3.9 instead of 3.5 on eye relief?

Any reason why one instead of the other?  I'm leaning more toward this second one.

Also, do they offer a member discount or anything that you know of?

Thanks.

L.J.

You have a rifle capable of 1600 yards plus.  2-300 rnds @ $3/rnd is $6-900 per session and you want a $300 scope?  The Aimpoint on a $700 AR is $400 plus a mount.  Get a NF/US Optics/SB used if the new prices scare you off.  I have 4 NF all used from buyers that were in a bad spot.  I didn't rush and picked what I wanted each time.  For my 2 mid-range rifles I got a pair of 2.5-10x24 for $1400 total.  For the 2 5.5x22 models I am still under $1200/each

You will quickly become a believer in what this quality of glass can offer outside of 700 yards.  And they will not fall apart at the range.  Nothing is as embarrassing as picking up the lens of your scope when you HAD the coolest toy at the range until it broke.

I have the Leupold  Mark IV M1 16X40 Fixed Power with a side focus on my Armalite AR50.

I have used the same Leupold Mark IV Tactical 8.5X25X50 scope on my AR-50 since 2006. This combination now has over 4200 rounds fired with a barrel replacement at 3760 rounds. Scope still works great and has a LIFETIME WARRANTY, which I hope I never have to use.

Buying a cheap scope with a limited warranty. Is like kicking a coffee table bare footed on purpose again and again. Each time the scope breaks and you replace it again with another cheap one. We hear you go "aaaaahh shit that hurts". We all are here trying to tell you how to quit stubbing your toes.

BTW love that picture someone painted in my mind how it must be to take your super cool rifle and tuck it and your tail off of the range. While trying to also pick up the lenses. Expensive rifle, ammo and a cheap ass scope. If your only going to shoot 100 yrds, why not iron sights.

I have an SWFA SS on mine, I like it it.  It's a bolt action, though, and I don't have that many rounds through it.

I might be working a trade for a L&S Ultra 16x.

Other than that - I've heard good things about the SWFA for the money.

I have a hard time putting big $ stuff on a gun I got in a trade - shoot very rarely - and at 200 yards tops.

I'd sell the thing if shipping wouldn't kill me.  That plus the 150rds I have would be nuts.  There is no market locally.

I went with the L&S Ultra Scope - 16x.  From what I read they are virtually recoil proof - and Leupold will still stand behind it.

This is my first 1k+ piece of glass.

Thanks for your help guys.

Compared to some of your cheaper scopes. How does this one stack up for clear and bright picture?

Didnt find any warranty info. What is their warranty like? Needs to be no questions asked for lifetime of owner. If they wont stand behind it with a no question asked. Walk away. And one other point. How common are 35mm rings? Lots of 1 inch and 30mm rings. But maybe life has passed me by or 35mm rings are not common.

The millet scopes are junk in my opinion as a former millet owner. Mine would not hold zero, track accurately, and the glass was TERRIBLE at max magnification.

I've been running mine for almost six years now.  No problems after many hundreds of 50BMG through my Windrunner, so I can't speak on warranty service.  Supposedly lifetime warranty, but the original registration card made no mention.  I've been happy so far, but shooting has been limited to under 300yds.  I shoot my iron sighted Sharps more at those distances, with approximately equal accuracy but less risk of transport related hernias.

I know the feeling - I have a torn oblique in my abdomen and can't handle my BMG either.

Budget:

$200  Bushnell 10x
$250 SWFA 10, 16, or 20
$400 Leupold 6-18?
$700 Sightron SIII 6-24
$1300 Nightforce NXS 5.5-22/8-32/12-42
$2400+ USO/S&B/etc

On my first 50 I used a 30 year old Leupold 6.5-20x40.  Just a duplex reticle and limited travel, but nice glass, target turrets, and Leupold will fix it free quickly if it ever does break.  You can find them for $400 occasionally.
