Both approved 15-Jan-2016 137 days (18 weeks) from date of cheque cashed to approval. The stamps have not yet arrived at my FFL though. I called my FFL today (2 weeks after approval) but he said that the approval date means NOTHING, suggesting that the NFA branch has been slow to mail the forms out. |

How long does it usually take from the day it was approved to the time the stamp is received? My form 4 was approved on Jan 15, and still no call from the dealer. I have never had one take this long before.

Anyone running into long times from check cashed to processing? ATF cashed 4 checks of mine 1 month ago and none of them are even processed or "in the system" yet. The people on the phone line say they haven't received them yet in West Virginia.

Seriously...calling does nothing. Send it priority mail so you know it got there, a payment method you can track, and be done with it. Only reason to call is if you see forms several weeks after yours being approved, just to check it there was an error letter. They're not worked in order, but once you get to 3-4 weeks past other approvals you might want to check. As long as you have a good dealer, they should let you know when it arrives. The wait from approval to receipt of stamp is usually the worst, so it's better to not know it's approved. To be clear...it's hard to not call. It took me until after the first dozen or more cans before I went that route. But, I generally just called to make sure they were in the system, and didn't call back just to check on a pending can. There were times I'd call to check on a new one, and ask about an old one, but rarely called just to see if then were approved, yet. |
