This is the Air Soft version of the first prototype version of a Colt carbine.
The main differences that it had before the first XM177s were the short A1 style handguards and the telestock which was only used in these proto models. CAR in this case means Colt Automatic Rifle ADDED: More info on these models can be found in "The Black Rifle" and "Special Warfare, Special Weapons" books. |

So many different answers regarding what CAR stands for. I really don't know.

Well, I know the AR stands for Armalite 15, since Armalite designed and sold the rifle, Colt only later produced for the military. My guess was Carbine Armalite 15.

Thas right and I would LOVE! to find a stock set like that for my carbine. ps: I was always told that AR stands for Armalite rifle,so you have the Armalite Rifle#18 or 10 or 15 ect. And car was just short for carbine. |

Colt Accurized Rifle, as in the CAR-15. I don't *think* you will see any other manufacture claim to ahve a "CAR-15" only such thins as AR-15,, XM15, etc. . .

Well they said "Colt Accurized Rifle" but they did not said thats what car stands for.
Anyway that was a big a$$ 24" I have only known CAR to but 16" or less. |

The CAR means also the Colt Accurized Rifle, BUT for the third time: in THIS case it refers to Colt Automatic Rifle

About the A1 short handguards ad the stock of the soft air gun? In the link I can see a standard M4 folding stock and A2 short handguards....that's ok, but I have never seen a REAL CAR15 like the one that I described or that look like the japanese replica. |
