Hear me out.

So I wanted to try dry lube. Graphite is bad, Teflon gets toxic and clumps at high temp, moly and Boron nitride is good, but Tungsten Disulfide fit the bill by being better. For those of you who don't know, Tungsten Disulfide is the most lubricious material on earth with a coefficient of friction better than Teflon, moly, and Boron Nitride.

I was trying to get my BCM KMR handguard on the nut and it was extremely hard. Tried Froglube, 5w-20 synth motor oil, a few different clps and it still was hard. Coated the nut and the inside of the KMR and it slid right on. I just built this upper so my bolt was is stiff. I simply coated my bolt and carrier and my bolt was butter (before it was hard).

Now to the fun part. So the Tungsten sulfide turns everything it touches a dark silver/dark greyish color. I got it all over my hands and kept touching the upper as I was coating the inside. I thought it looked awesome. So just rubbed my hands all over her. This is what I got:

It's darker than it looks in the pics. Everything was black before coating.

Very nice!! How difficult is it to remove if you decide to?

Well. Heat doesn't really work because it resist up to like 1500F. Solven seems to do the trick. CLP doesn't seem to take it off. It bonds to the metal (not what you think) so solvent takes it off once you rub it good. It's not like it's going to come off while usong, normally, but if you get a rag and rub it good with solvent it should come off pretty easy. Just putting solven on won't do it.

I added a pic of my V7 Titanium Ionbond Carrier after i coated it completely. It was black before.

It looks cool. But is it now slippery in your hands? Seems counter intuitive..

Also, the easy way to put on a KMR is to simply use a heat gun or hair dryer and warm up the KMR where it mounts to the nut. The heat expands the metal and it easily slips on, just for future reference.

It's a tiny bit slicker than normal and it's not noticeable because I didn't apply it directly. I had some on my fingers and just rubbed it on. It literally gets everywhere. If you get it on your hands and touch something it gets on that. If you drop in on the floor or in the sink, it will make it black. It takes a lot of soap and hot water with scotchpad scrubbing to get it out of the sink. Trust me. Not like it's happened to me though.

I tried it using a blow dryer to heat up the handguard. Kind of helped, but not really. With the Tungsten Sulfide it slipped on like butter. This stuff is slicker than any lube I've ever used in the military or any of the flavors of the month that I've ever used.

When I installed mine I had a V7 titanium KMR nut that felt much more slick, that could have been why I had an easy time with it.

The outside or inside? I coated everything from the bolt to the inside of the upper, chamber, and barrel. I simply coated a bore whip with it and ran it through the barrel a few times. It's definitely the slickest lube out there. Coefficient of friction is 0.03.

No. Tungsten Disulfide is extremely resistant to heat. It's not like Teflon where it becomes toxic when it gets too hot, and it's bio-based.

I would be worried about getting on my skin or inhaling it if I used the nanoparticle version of the Disulfide. Nanoparticle and and of themselves can be scary, not necessarily bad. The one I bought was Microlubrol at 0.5 microns which isn't nano. The next one I buy will be NanoSlik at 0.3 microns, plus their formulation has about 1% of additives and corrosion inhibitors.

[#16]
After briefly perusing the SDS, I'm not sure I would want to be inhaling the particulate from that when I shoot.

Maybe I would be more comfortable with the 1wt% to 15wt% mixture with a grease or oil method of application.

It doesn't stain. If you rub it good with an automotive paper towel after you finger apply it won't get everywhere. It bonds the the material you put it on.

As for the particulates, if you rub it on the material, particles won't necessarily be flying everywhere. It's about as harmful, if not much less as the carbon fouling particles.

I would be worried when it's in the powdered substance and I breathe it.

For the inside, if you mix it with your current lube it will turn in black and you'll get a black carrier.

I know you're adverse to use paint, but most of the spray paints and model paints come off with simple solvent.

If you don't like it, just wipe it off and try again.

I didn't use nylon gloves when I first used it. My hands weren't blackosh because I simply held it, I just finished coating the lower without nylon gloves in the last pic.

After I spread it really well with an automotive paper towel, it doesn't really spread to my hands.

I'll take more pics today. I'm also going to take it to the range.

I have a galaxy S7 Edge which takes extremely saturated pics. Sometimes cameras pic up our house lights with red/orange tints, so in the first pics I edited out the red/orange/bronze. This mod doesn't make the rofle bronze, the shitty orange apartment lights give it that look. Attached are virgin photos.

No not just by being wet.  It needs solvent, or acetone and/or rubbing alcohol mixed with some scrubbing with a rag. When you out it on make sure you use nylon gloves and then rub it real good into whatever material you put on, use a few rags or automotive paper towels. If you don't rub it well it will get all over your hands when you touch the rifle. If you rub it well it won't transfer to your hands or clothes.

It's not hard to come off, nor is it easy. What I'm trying to say is it lasts and won't simply rub off, but it also isn't a mission to take off.

Nice build. Very similar to my ultra lightweight build. I've never seen that Hydra-Fire cam pin before. I like the design much better than the POF roller cam pin, which I don't use for my own reasons. Just curious why you chose an adjustable gas block AND an adjustable key? I might be missing something, but I don't see the need for both?

BTW, rifle looks pretty damn cool, but I think it's more of a mess than its worth on a gun you plan on using often.

Added up all the weight and it weighs 4lbs 10.6 oz total (even with optics/mount)

Once you put it on correctly, you don't need to worry about it. You can coat the upper, lower, and everything in between. I recommend coating the BCG very lightly, but after the initial coat use your regular lube because that shit can get messy. It's different when you coat to lubricate rather than coat for looks. I did coat my buffer tube, upper, barrel, trigger group, and lower. While the trigger is already amazing, it was even better following the coating. It became a little more smooth.

As for the dual adjustments, it gives me more control. While this is the lightest gas block available, I have to take off my handguard to adjust. Using both gives me the ability to tune it better and more precisely.

Besides, if I decide to put my carrier in another rifle, I can adjust the carrier for it without any issues.

It looks like you had some silver/gray shit on your hands and wiped it all over the gun.

Doesn't look "battle worn" to me.

But...if you like it.

Very good looking rifle.
Could you give the details of this build?
The safety is the push button, right?
The port door?
Charging handle?

I gotcha. The NI gas block did grab my attention, but I prefer the SLR method of adjustment over the dual set-screws. Plus, I can adjust it without removing my KMR13. I went with SLR's titanium Sentry 6 set screw block. Very light, but not quite as light as yours.
