And so it begins...

http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq246/juju151/camo01.jpg

Krylon/Rustoleum taken out of the can, mixing them to try to get colors correct (my medium brown is still off - but I will correct that...and my dark green needs to be a little darker), put into mason jars, then sprayed from an airbrush.

More Details soon...

Ok...I played hooky from work today and made a little more progress...

The colors actually match much better than it looks in the pics...for some reason the pics are not turning out very good.

I'm just doing it a little at a time...and there is still MUCH more to do yet...

________________________________________________________________________

Here's a comparison...even though it looks like shit, I think the camo still has the advantage...in sun and shade...

Man this is a pain in the ass!!! So, I did not like how it was turning out...colors seemed to be getting a little to "bright", so I stripped some, and did it a little different. Plus, I fogged some of other parts to tone it down a bit.

Again...the colors in the picture is not quite accurate. I don't know why, but the new "white" part I added is actually tan, and the "grey" is actually a medium brown color.

Still experimenting, so...

Man, I am SICK of masking and painting, so I think I will call this one done for now. I think that I'll take a break for a little while before I start on the other one. I still need to paint some mags, a light and some rail covers for this one, then it will be finished.

It turned out ok, I guess...hopefully the next one will be a little better now that I've learned from some mistakes.

I'll post some better pics of it outside next weekend.

Pics, with and without flash...

Ok...This one is FINISHED!!!

Today I painted 10 mags and 2 lights, and did a little more highlight work on the rifle...so one down, one to go. At least I've got the mags and light done for the other one already. I think that adding a little more of the white highlights helped it out alot.

My Mom came over today for a visit, so I put her to work drawing and cutting stencils... She did pretty good and it saved me alot of time, and I think she enjoyed spending a little time with her son, even if it was while camoing a rifle. Thanks Mom!!!

Well, here it is completely finished...

I'm doing them freehand...

Just looking at some Multicam clothes to get ideas and drawing them on tape, then cutting them out.

I'm not sure I really like how it's turning out...I think I will have to redo some of it. I haven't used my airbrush since I was in High School, and that's been A LONG time. had
I'm doing 2 rifles and this is my first, so I am experimenting right now.  Hopefully the 2nd one will turn out a little better.

I wish you were in WI. You could cut stencils all day, and I could shoot Duracoat! Would be awesome!

I'm kinda looking for a partner in my painting. could use the extra set of hands.

It's a deal man. If I ever get up that way, I'll give ya a shout. I'd much rather cut stencils than spray.

If I were painting that, and I'm not, I'd spray some overspray of every color on there. Give it a little spackle type look (VERY light! almost not noticeable!). It tends to blend colors in nicely. Cuts down on the edges. Other than that I really like the look, a LOT.

Oh, and I live near Madison...

Thanks...I might try that before I finish it completely. I'm going to take a little break before I work on it more...I might do a little bit next weekend.

BTW...My wife is originally from WI, around the Oak Creek area. Her Dad lives up in the Dells...we go up there once or twice a year. Nice place really...Pretty much the same as rural GA, except for the COLD WEATHER!!! Oh, and those damn HUGE mosquitos! Those things are unbelievable!

New pics added 10/25/08...

Let me know whatcha think...

Did I do ok?

This was my first camo job, so I was a little nervous doing this one.

It looks good to me.

The problem (I've had it, too) is trying to match the light olive green color in the Multicam. I can't find any paint that really matches it exactly. Nonetheless, your camo job came out very good!

And, You are exactly correct!!!
My first attempt came out way too yellow, thats why I had to tone it down some.

I had problems with the medium brown also, it looks more grey in the pics for some reason, but it does look a little better in person, but still not exactly the right shade.
