Rustolium Camo Black, satin aluminum, oiled bronze, Krylon satin white and flat clear. A laundry bag net and a sponge. Was going for an Urban Snakeskin. For some reason the rail covers have a blueish hue to them, painted them exactly the same as everything else but they are a different kind of plastic than the rest. I striped it with white and bronze, placed all parts on thick cardboard. Cut the netting to cover each individual part and stapled it down tight to the cardboard with the netting oriented properly. Striped it again with aluminum over bronze and bronze over white. The aluminum paint was so thin it penetrated the netting in some places. Pulled the netting off then sponged it with white and black then a coat of flat clear. I thought I was screwing it up at first but the sponge technique was the finishing touch. http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp313/headcase650/IMG_8310.jpg http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp313/headcase650/IMG_8308.jpg http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp313/headcase650/IMG_8309.jpg http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp313/headcase650/IMG_8311.jpg View Quote Very Nice and a good second post!! Stuffed paper towel in the flash hider, removed BCG stuffed upper with paper towels, closed dust cover put in a mag and sprayed it. Paint was Rustoleum ultra flat camo and one Satin color. Colors were solid Khaki base, then striped with Camouflage Sand , and Army Green. Then put a thinner stripe over that with Deep Forest Green and Satin Dark Taupe to create a fade from one color to another . Then I dusted the stripes again with the Camo Sand and Army Green. I made some Multicamish stencils on craft paper and cut them out with an Xacto knife. then just painted them on with Earth Brown, and Khaki. I held the stencils very close to but not on the gun. So the edges aren't super sharp. I tried to put the dark color stencils over the light base, and light over dark. Then just put some random stencils on. |

Nice! How big are the pieces of sponge you use? |

Long time browser, first time poster. Decided to try out some rattle cans on my 15-22. Took me a few tries to get it right but I'm pleased with the outcome.
I call it carbon fiber snakeskin. I used a fish net stocking, rust oleum dark metallic for the base coat, then rustoleum light metallic w/ the fish nets, then rustoleum bronze metallic w/ fish net, then rustoleum camouflage matte black w/ fish net. Went over with 3 costs of Krylon fusion clear. http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t608/benbadon/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/7867DB3B-9C57-4568-838A-FE23DE2C4EF4_zps11gnpbc5.jpg http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t608/benbadon/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/853FE32D-290A-4F08-8C2F-A5CC56788F1A_zpsqlgctcwq.jpg http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t608/benbadon/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/F59B8941-1F2D-4E0C-A8F6-A288443BBA58_zpsypoqnavy.jpg http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t608/benbadon/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03/23865A0C-0148-4839-A65D-300D51BEF9A4_zpspqakxapp.jpg Please be easy on me, my first go at this! Won't be my last. Looking forward to try a different design on its big brother, my M&P15 MOE Middy or M&P9 FS. Can't decide! |

Alright I can't decide on my next paintjob, I think I'm just gonna take that "carbon fiber snakeskin" paint off and start a new. I want to do the 15-22 and the 5.56 with a nice clean two tone. I really want to do the 15-22s upper/lower in Tungsten Gray and the 5.56 upper/lower in Burnt bronze. Any recommendations on what colors to match those up with and how to do it with duracoat with a rattle can? Tungsten Gray/ Graphite Black sounds really attractive but I'm not sure about what to match the bronze with. Thanks for any ideas.
