Unless I've come down with a case of the 'tard, I can't for the life of me find a 'Post pics of your plate carrier setup' thread...? I searched with all my team powers but couldn't find one?

If there is none, I will post mine up and start one- or does anyone know where it went? I coulda sworn I've seen one?

ETA: Not talking about chest rigs, or 'gear' in general. I'm talking about strictly plate carriers.

ETA2: One other person can't find one either; so that must mean this is none! THIS IS NOW A PLATE CARRIER THREAD!

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Please BE SURE to post specs if you join in! Including Plates inside!

With chest rig attached:

Chest rig detached:

Velocity Systems LWPC in MC with two triple-curve plates by RMR tactical inside.

Chest rig is clipped on using the Velocity Systems 'Swift Clip' Attachment system. Chest rig is a TT mini-mav with a triple mag shingle, and two modded Eagle FB pistol mag pouches on each side (modded to fit double stack glock mags). Pouch in front is a MSM Admin pouch.

I LOVE this PC because I can not only have a chest rig attached, but also use it under clothing as a low-pro carrier.

I just need one little bit of advice before I post my new PC, and it may be very newbish. What's the best way to attach my kwyi to the avs flap of my jpc? I used that WTFix straps that came with it but they're a tad too short to go through all four molle loop things on the back of the kwyi so I just have it going through the top three, so it flexes a little on the bottom. Is that okay or should I be using something else?

Sounds like you have it figured out.  Most MOLLE type platforms use an odd number of rows to mount (3, 5, etc.)

In fact, it's even explained on Esstac's website for the mid-size kiwis:

"There are 4 rows of webbing on the back of the pouch. You only use the Top 3 rows of webbing when mounting (not 4). This pouch is made for AR-15 style magazines."

Took this one for Instagram but thought I'd share it here since I have it saved anyways. Only thing missing from the pic is the rear plate bag. I run bare bones, no hydro, and either with or without side plates and a GP pouch set up on different cummerbunds.

I make a retrofit kit that the end-user can complete at home. Configurable in many ways and allows for mounting of pouches/side plates where the adapters loop into place, plus the cummerbund overlaps the buckles depending on how you configure the kit.

My recent purchase and one heck of a upgrade is my Crye Precision cage plate carrier in coyote brown its amazing. I haven't had the chance to upgrade pouches or add anything as of yet. I am planning to either to run AR mag pouches or just use handgun magazine pouches instead or just leave the admin pouch for now. Decisions decisions.

Is it possible that he has it just because he can?  I have three of them.  One each in Coyote, Multi-cam and Ranger Green.  I certainly don't have them for any particular unit but instead because it is a great piece of kit that compares to very few others insofar as I'm concerned.  I realize what his name is but it could be possible that he's retired as well or just bought that for his own personal use.

It wasn’t a shot at him owning it. By all means, use what works. I like the AVS. I’m just legit curious to if his unit will allow him to do that. When I was in I certainly couldn’t.

Are those connectors on the cummerbund metal? I've never seen a system like that, seems like it could dig in to your sides unpleasantly.
Link Posted: 8/11/2019 9:06:55 PM EDT
[Last Edit: RogueJSK] [#27]
They are aluminum Australpin Cobra buckles.  No, they do not dig into your sides, no matter how you contort your body.

The Cobra buckles make it much quicker and easier to don/doff than a carrier with a standard cummerbund, and the elastic nylon tubing used in the cummerbund has just enough give to make it comfortable when moving and breathing hard, while still providing sufficient tension to keep the carrier snugly in place.  Lighter, more breathable, lower profile, and faster than a full cummerbund, but more comfortable and secure than basic single-strap setups with male/female QD buckles.  Best of both worlds.  (And if needed, you could potentially weave MOLLE pouches or side armor carriers onto the triple webbing, but I have no need for those.)

AWC offers a retrofit kit for plate carriers:  https://www.americanweaponscomponents.com/product/derma-universal-cummerbund-kit-duck

Arbor Arms offers a similar kit: https://arborarmsusa.com/cummerbund-kits/frc-kit/

How do you like the drop down pouch?  I'm looking at a drop down/dangler for med gear for work.  I've looked at the Ferro Concepts, Haley Strategic, Tactical Tailor, and BCS ones.  I also looked at the link you had and that one seems nice too.

Works great.  Just enough give to let you comfortably crouch/crawl/sit/etc, but not so much that it flops about unnecessarily.

They all seem to perform fairly similarly, so go for whatever one has the size and internal/external features you want.

This particular one seems like it is a bit larger than most.

I'm new to the whole plate carrier thing.  I have a shitty one at work, that I never use, but now I'm thinking of picking one up for myself.  I'm in between the Shellback Banshee or Banshee Elite, and the AR500 Veritas or Testudo.  Also, I don't want too much gear on it, maybe just some mag pouches and a tourniquet.  I'm also stuck between Level III or III+.  Somebody help a brother out.

Skip on the AR500 stuff, it's imported.

If you're spending Banshee money but won't put much on the carrier you'd be better of with something more minimalist, something along the lines of the JPC.

That said since you're looking at 10x12/11x14 carriers and said your "stuck between level III and III+" I'm guessing you're considering steel armor?

Yeah I'd like some hard plates.  I do like the idea on the Banshee Elite with the pockets in the cummerbund.  I know it's stupid, but I'm also between what color to go with.  I was thinking ranger green or MC would match in environment in SC.

Can I talk you away from steel?

Also, head over to Beez Combat Systems. They have carriers I'd say would be a better option for you that would also be cheaper. Still US made and in any color you want. The Banshee really is overkill if you don't need all those features.

Ok so here's the deal, if I can't talk you away from steel the only route I recommend with steel plates is they must be the III+ versions with a higher velocity rating. The max velocity is usually still ~200 FPS below the maximum velocity of M193 but that's as good as it gets. Absolutely get the build up coating, you'll instantly regret not having done so if you take a hit with it otherwise.

Well, I can definitely vouch for the comfort factor of the Ferro Slickster after last night. I stood a 12 hour shift on static guard, wearing my Slickster underneath my button down shirt, and it was the most comfortable plate carrier experience I have ever experienced.

Never going back to the big, heavy, bulky carriers for dismounted use after this.

Not that I'm going to be using this very often, but it's good to hear that the slickster is comfortable. This will be my first carrier. I'm going to hold off on ordering until Labor Day to hopefully catch a sale.

Same here.  I’ll be running mine with a Haley Micro rig.  Now I just have to get my hands on some of the Haley mag inserts.

Thanks.  I'm actually waiting for the triple mag insert for the Micro to come back into stock.

Quick question as I don't want to start a whole new thread. Is single curve half ass comfortable? I won't be wearing these often if that matters. Seems like multicurve are pricey and I am on a budget.

This will be entirely up to your personal preference and body type however I recently switched from multi to single curve and I don't notice any difference in comfort.

Never going back to the big, heavy, bulky carriers for dismounted use after this.

I like mine so much that I bought one in CB off the EE for $100 shipped. The deals are out there.

Those of you running the Slickster, what do you do for hydration?  The only thing I could find online is that they make a rear plate pocket that has molle on it, but that's a pretty steep add-on.  Any other options other than throwing a water bottle in one of the side pockets?

I wear mine concealed, so that hasn’t really been an issue, but now you’ve got me thinking of how I’ll attach a hydration pouch to the back of the one I will be using in the field.

Is one with backpack straps out of the question? I've always hated attaching the camel pack to the armor. I like to be able to just slip it off to refill in the field.
