I caught you - You posted this on SGW first!
Again, nice write up, I look forward to you posting in a bit and tell us what abuse it is or is not taking well. I want to put my hands on one before purchase. Of course, putting AR mags in the pockets makes it a very versatile rig. |
|
Actually the thread over on SGW was what I put up not long after I got it. I've added to that and put some more details in this. I've been using it for the last two months and it is good gear.
Haven't had any problems with anything coming apart or wearing through. I've liked the ability to use the DSAC, 3 Gun Gear and OSOE shotgun inserts at the same time, and putting the carriers onto the shotgun from the Micro is a different way of doing it. Really helps to speed up the reloading when you've got the inserts being swapped out, rather than going back to the rig for each shell. |
|
Awesome writeup. Thanks for taking the time to go into the detail you did. Impressive rig. Suggestions for where to pick one up?

No problem.
You can order them direct from John at OSOE. The ordering process is a little different: you place the item in the cart and then checkout. You will then be contacted by OSOE (John or Amanda) and given the actual price including shipping as well as the expected shipping date. It usually takes about a week for them to make stuff up unless they happen to have a few in stock from other orders or if it is something that they just make a lot of. Emailing them is probably the best way to communicate with them from what I've seen. |

m24shooter,
Nice rig and a great write up! Is that set up reversible for a left handed shooter or are those pouches fixed? I checked the website, but I couldn't find anything about being able to swap the pouch locations. |

Check....I guess I will end up having to get the pouches separately and put together a left handed shotgun shell set up on one of their PALS chest rigs......Thanks! |

Thats what i would do in your situation. It will run more money but atleast its setup correct for you. |

Love that setup, what brand/kind are those blue shells? I want some!

Mic214:
That rig is not reversable, but there is a left handed version available. ETA: Looks like they're gone. You may be able to contact John when he gets back from SHOT and see if he can do a run. You could also get the MOLLE version, and put your own together. I don't think there is a corresponding pouch for the BOK, there are several similar ones that John makes. Tuna: Those are Federal TruBall slugs. ETA: John is still making the left handed version. |

I use an OSOE compact vertical tear off med pouch. Shown here with 3 OSOE shotgun pouches on Specter Gear chest rig modified to accept padded ATS H-harness. Double OSOE pistol mag pouch for a multi-tool and small bottle of Slip EWL.

Thanks in advance. |

Can you give me details on how to modify the Specter Gear chest rig to accept the H Harness
The original webbing and side release buckles that attach at the top of the chest rig were removed and replaced with 2" webbing and 2" side release buckles to accept the wider ATS h-harness. An upholstery shop, shoe repair place, or anyone else with a heavy duty sewing machine can sew the wider webbing directly to the chest rig. I also have 2" tri-glides to keep the free ends of the webbing secure and then the ends were threaded up into the padded portion of the h-harness. I bought the webbing and hardware from rockywoods.com |

I bought the webbing and hardware from rockywoods.com terrymg Thanks again, I should have looked at your pics better....I ordered two of the H Harnesses from SKD and I can do the sewing by hand. I was thinking of using some of the webbing from the harness to mount the buckles. Have you tried to use a hydration bladder? Not necessary for a bump in the night kit, but when training it would be nice to have... I have from left to right: one Specter Gear double pistol mag pouch, two 18 round Specter Gear SGS pouches, they are horizontal and sit one on the other, a med pouch with my home brew BOK in it, and a single pistol mag pouch for a light. I may swap this for a double to support a light and multi-tool. I also have a 2x2 AR mag pouch that I can swap out with the SGS pouches. Do not do this alot as I have another carbine rig already. I have 6 rounds in my SG to start (ok 6+1), that is load one. A side saddle (six slugs brass up) Then I have six reloads on my chest rig. one + six is a standard rifleman's load out so this is the logic I am using. I like the Specter Gear pouches, well made and they open big so you reach in and get what you need with out looking. A secondary light on this type of rig is absolutely necessary as you may need to look at something and do not want to have to use you primary or secondary weapon as a flashlight. OP and All; sorry to go on as long as I did. The rigs shown are rock solid and I appreciate the chance to talk shotgun kit.. I will post some pics when I get my harness fabbed and installed. |

I've seen Terry's rig and it is well put together. I think it can only help and there are probably others that benefitted from it as well. |

Have you, or has anyone, actually seen this in any other color. The pictures on the website seem to show that the thread does not match the fabric.

If you are looking at the black shotgun micro rig on the OSOE website, it shows a black rig with pink stitching that John told me made for his wife Amanda to use for a class. If it is not that one, it could be just because of the camera settings or flash. The thread on the OSOE pouches I have is as close of a match as on other chest rigs or pouches from other reputable manufacturers that I have. If it is my pic you are referring to, my camera is cheap and and my photography skills are greatly lacking compared to the pics by m24shooter.

John is a great guy and SOE gear is good stuff.
I've been using one of his AR/AK micro rigs for about ~2 yrs now top notch stuff. If you ever need a belt you should get his Cobra belt greatest belt ever IMO. |

Like Terry said if you're looking at the black/pink one, that is a special one that he did. The other ones I've seen had matching thread too. |
