So did the Smith & Wesson become the Mossberg, or are there dimensional differences btwn the two?

Built with US-made billet machined receivers, precision machined hammer, disconnector, safety components and gas system.
It has a charging handle integrated into the handguard. AR-15 grips and stocks can be attached to the receiver.
With the removal of two take down pins, the receivers come apart like a G3 so you can work on the fire controls, etc.

Here's some footage from the Sportsman Channel of a few of them in action.
HELI-HUNTER TRAILER

When I have some more time, I'd like to try out some different hardware configurations, finishes and so on.
For now, I just want to see the first 50 sets of receivers that have been machined built into complete guns.

Here's the receiver take down:

ETA: sorry about the renders, but they're geometrically and mechanically accurate and much more clear than the photos I get out of my iPotato.

TOP - My Remington 870 Police Magnum with an original factory folding stock. The rifle was a police trade in (great shape), and I stole the factory folding stock off Gunbroker with the original box and installation instructions! This gun is pretty uncomfortable to shoot. I'm thinking of taking it to my gunsmith to see if he can't shorten the length of pull somehow. He's pretty handy. I'm also looking for a sling swivel for the pistol grip stock. If anyone knows where in the world to find one, let me know!

BOTTOM - Ithaca Model 37. A hoot to shoot, but it has a such a heavy recoil because it's so light! Time for a recoil pad...

There is a Thread by TexasRifleman , in it he has a few pic's of how he shortened a Remington Folding Stock from 14" to 12" LOP.  It's about 2/3 the way down, on the 1st page.  Here's the link:

Thanks very much, I'm with you. I never wanted just another black 870. Side-by-side weight comparison with the other gun on the table, mine felt easier to shoot, more stable.

Just drift for windage. The rear is XS, not sure about the front; would like to get tritium for each. The gun is still very fast (as with a bead) but is able to be aimed very well with those sights.

ETA: a little 20ga fun gun. Gotta figure out something different for that forend.

Since I don't have a digital camera that's worth a hoot, this is just an illustration I made of some shotguns I've been tinkering with lately.
Aside from the metals used to machine them and a couple of springs, the guns are pretty much made from scratch right here in the USA.

Some slightly-better pics of my 870. I still want to replace the WC +2 with a good, +3 extension,
get a sling with proper mounts for it, and replace the Tac-Star side saddle with a Mesa 8-rounder.
Apparently, as far as I can find, no one makes a mag-tube clamp that fits the WC properly.

I've had the S&J Hardware velcro side saddle for about two years. Been holding up great and I keep shells in it 24/7.

It's a semi-automatic design that has a mechanism for recoil operation which is similar to the Remington 1100. It's very easy to work on and doesn't require a lot of tools or training to perform routine cleaning and so forth. The fire controls are arranged in a configuration that is like an AR-15. The components for the LPK are manufactured using high quality materials (many of which are heat treated and carefully finished where strength and surface characteristics are critical). The receivers are machined from T6 aluminum billet and the accept AR-15 grips, triggers and stocks. The take down procedure is comparable to a SCAR or HK91 in that there are two pins which hold the receivers together. The stock, handguard, barrel and recoil system are attached to the upper receiver. The handguard is outfitted with an ambidextrous, non-reciprocating charging handle. This feature allows the shooter to maintain their cheek weld and sight picture while operating the firearm. Since the handguard is attached to the upper receiver, it doesn't make any direct contact with the barrel. There are two different models: a light recoil version for 3-gun and sport use and another version which is made to handle game loads. A variety of accessories and internal parts are also available for customizations. They are not made for "magnum" loads, but will shoot just about any other 2¾ inch shells. The standard magazines have either a 5 round or 10 round capacity.

Here's another one of my drawings showing some details on the other side.

Here's a Turkish BR-99 with a machined aluminum replacement lower and improved LPK. It also has a replacement handguard made for it that's outfitted with a side charging handle. These components are part of a complete assortment of U.S. made 922(r) compliance options for this line of imports. Since the Saiga 12 gauge is not available at this time, these models remain an alternative for those seeking a semi-auto shotgun that uses a box magazine.

eta: Left Side

These receivers fit AR-15 grips and stocks and triggers.
This one got taken apart and anodized after the picture. I thought the raw aluminum might help show the form more clearly than the black finish.

Edited to also add:  We just started hammering out the details of making a forged version of these reeceivers in order to make them a more affordable upgrade for MKA-type shotguns. In addition to making a comprehensive line of replacent parts, we've started working on an improved design for the bolts, the carriers, drive blocks and we even have some magazines on the drawing board.
