I had put my Commander away for a while as I just couldn't justify the cost of the ammo over my 9mms and still haven't gotten .45 dies or bullets.

I got a deal on some .45 a couple of weeks ago and instead of stockpiling the ammo, took it to the range. It was such a joy to shoot that I don't really want to shoot any other pistols for a while.

It's funny I've always been a 1911 hater. But I had one basically given to me and between the stainless steel, the quality, the smoothness of the gun; well let's just say it's quickly becoming one of my favorites.
I would never go to war with it over my glocks, but my 1911 has taken a special place in my collection.

I'm new to the 1911.  Bought my first a few months back and put a bunch of rounds through it.  Immediately bought a second one.  I love them.

I always end up coming back to them. Yes, even for carry. I don't bite my thumb at other pistols. I go through spurts where I tell myself what I "need" and make a purchase. Only to be somewhat let down.

Beretta, CZ, H&K, Sig, Glock

It just seems impossible to get a slim frame and a good trigger without a 1911. The myth that they are to big to conceal, or that you have to wear a parka to do it is laughable.

I shoot well with them, and have quit fighting it. I'll buy other pistols, but my 1911's are my go to. For carry and home.

Thank you all. That's a nice Sig, too.

I'll get into hand-loading for this soon. I think the worst part of reloading is policing brass.

I've been carrying 1911's for over 20 years now. There's millions of GIs that have carried them in combat and it has saved their lives many times!! My two carry guns are now the 45ACP and 9mm LW Commander 1911s and the M&P 9mm & 45ACP Shields. I have serious back problems so I carry the Shields when I can't stand the weight of the 1911s!  Not carrying is not an option IMO!!!!!!!! I won't carry anything smaller than 9mm.

The last couple months I have really started to get back into the 1911...looking at various Springers as I write this.

While policing the brass, make sure you sort out the large pistol primer cases from the small pistol primer cases.

I bring my kids, teach them how to shoot, and then make them pick up the brass.

Yes.

Such a great platform. I own half a dozen Glocks, but nothing encompasses the whole picture like a 1911.

I try NOT to shoot my 1911 and it still happens. I'll bring a G17, for example, and my AR15 to the range.

I'm end up buying a few boxes of .45 ACP at the range.  (When I have plenty at home)...unloading my carry mags, and shooting the damn thing anyway.
