I originally wanted a Springfield TRP with the black Armory Kote and without the accessory rail. The only thing I don't care for is the type of hammer that seems to be a slightly different shape than the commander hammer with the oval, oblong hole in it. I know that it could easily be changed out by a gunsmith.

After reading various threads on the TRP here, there seems that the Dan Wesson Valor is better made to some degree and have many of the same features as the TRP. I like the hammer better than the TRP, except I would like to have the ambidextrous thumb safety and the extended and beveled mag well that the TRP has.

As I was looking on CZ's web page I saw the Dan Wesson Specialist. I like everything about it except the accessory rail on the frame, it might grow on me, but the more I look at it, the more I don't care for it.

In short,
Springfield TRP  Pros Ambidextrous thumb safety
                                      Beveled mag well

                              Cons Hammer

   Dan Wesson Valor Pros Hammer

                                  Cons No ambidextrous thumb safety
                                           No beveled mag well

   Dan Wesson Specialist Pros Hammer
                                                 Ambidextrous thumb safety
                                                 beveled mag well

                                         Cons Accessory rail on frame

What ambidextrous thumb safety and beveled mag well would you recommend if I bought the Valor and had these patrs added or changed out. Thanks in advance for the help.

Smith & Alexander magwell. Thumb safety is personal preference. EGW unit is excellent, as is Wilson bulletproof and 10-8. Harrison is now making a thumb safety; have not used it, but it looks top shelf, like everything he makes.

The TRP does not have a bevel on the frames magwell. They do use a two piece magwell main spring housing. But the frame itself is not beveled.

I have a trp and I like it. Guns taken a knockin and keeps kicking.

Valor is also a top notch gun.

Please do a search; this has been done a dozen times. At least.

I've not owned a DW, but the TRP was 100 % reliable for me. DW has a very good reputation.

I've bought a TRP a couple of years ago and straight out of the box it was very reliable and accurate and it quickly became my IDPA gun.  This year I bought a Dan Wesson PM9 1911....................let's just say I've had issues with the gun.  Took it to the range and it was a nightmare, couldn't find mags that would work (9mm issue), when I found mags that would work (Wilson ETM's) the gun would not run, consistently jamming.  After a little research online found that this was a very common problem, the factory recoil springs are to weak and the factory extractors needed to be filed in order for the gun to operate.  What bothers me was the fact I had to work on a 1200.00 gun out of the box to make it run and these are common problems, not a real happy customer.  Now I understand this was a 9mm and not a 45, but when you spend 1200.00 on a gun shouldn't it work right out of the box.  I would be very careful before buying a Dan Wesson product, I've heard wonderful things about Dan Wesson, maybe they got too popular and grew a little to quickly and they are going through some growing pains.  Just my 2 cents.  Soon to be a ex - Dan Wesson owner.
